« on: Jul 03, 2003 at 02:37 AM »
Why is R1 more expensive than R3?

What's the difference?

Which should I buy?

What to buy? R3 or R1
 ;D ;D ;D

Don't know if there's a thread already, but I would like to ask if you know that the R3 is better or at par with the R1 counterpart, what would you buy? Why?

The Daredevil R3 is at par and is selling at a lower price compared to the R1. I think the R3 is already a good buy!

thanks.  ;)

Buy R3. tangkilikin ang sariling region natin.  :) especially Daredevil with Tagalag subtitles

But it's hard to walk my talk.
I have pre-order of Daredevil R1 and 90% of my collection is R1.  ;D

Kung parehas ang laman ng R3, maayos ang packaging  at mas mura kesa R1, of course R3.  :)

For me, it depends on the title and the features. Since R3 is cheaper, that's my priority. However,  there are R1 titles na ayaw ko din tipirin yung sarili ko like T2UE,  Jurassic Park Trilogy(with DTS track), Xmen 1.5 etc...

I Buy R3's if;

- It has the same features as R1's like columbia's Superbit Releases and many other titles

- It is a Warner release. (Most, if not all, are identical to R1's)

- It has a DTS track

I buy R1's if;

- It is a Special Release, Ultimate Edition Release, Extended Release, at kung anu ano pang Ultimate, Extereme, Super dooper Special ekek releases.. ;D

- Its THX Certified !

- It is not released in R3 like Toy Story 2.

- Pag nag sale ung mga sellers sa PinoyDVD at lumalabas na mas mura ang R1  ;D

Buy R1 (if you have the money and the means):

Pros:
- most of the blockbuster titles are in DTS compared to the limited titles of R3 in DTS.
- Better audio and video transfer
- Higher resale value
- only a few have access to R1 titles so owning one makes you proud :o
- more features (generally speaking)

What if local R3 DVDs are priced at the same prices as imported R1 DVDs but with the same features. just different disk manufacuturers and packaging. would you convert to R3? (if your pro R1)

That probably depends...

If both are exactly the same, right down to the packaging, then I'll probably go R3 - it's much more accessible because you can simply just buy it from any DVD store here in the Metro.

Should the R1 have better packaging, then I'll be buying the R1 version - since pareho lang nag presyo, dun na ko sa magandang packaging..

But if the DVD has both bare-bones and limited editions in R1 but only the bare-bones edition available for R3, then it's a sure bet I'll be getting the R1 limited ed for that DVD (I'm a real sucker for extra content in DVDs)...

:)

eh what if the prices of R1 are the same prices of R3 DVDs when they are on sale?  Would you convert to R1s or still stick to R3s?

To answer the initial question, why not.  If they have the same features and everything.  Buying Pinoy is great!  ;)

Let's say a certain movie dvd release in both R1 and R3 contains exactly the same stuff-- menu design, special features, etc., and the only difference is the packaging, AND YET, people want the R1 instead of the R3 that is easily accesible here.

People could be so strange...  :o

R1 syempre kasi gawa sa Amerika!!!!!  8) :P ;D

kidding aside, i go for R1s mainly because of the better packaging, extra features, and its high re-sale value... from what i've observed so far, eto yung edge ng R1 over the R3 counterparts... as far as video and audio (in most cases), comparable naman sila... admittedly mas magastos ang R1 kaya nga puro sale lang sa marketplace ang lagi kong inaabangan eh, bwehehe!

Depends on how you see things - for practicality r3, kung identical sa R1 counterpart.  For resale value and higher packaging quality R1 siempre.  :)

Warner DVDs are identical R1 or R3. So, i buy R3. unless, the title is not available locally.

Other titles, i buy R1.

I'm a solid R1 collector, mainly because of packaging and add-ons, not to mention of course audio and video quality and the graphics design of the disc itself... for R3, I usually borrow... nothing more...

You will not find R1 locally. Buy your R1s sa PinoyDVD marketplace or online. Or you can place an order on one of many resellers here. I highly recommend the following: Artemis, PARC or emildjr.

yes it really depends on how you see things.  and if the special features are identical, i'd go for R3 specially for animated films.  that's because we also enjoy these in chinese, all animated films are dubbed anyway, so there's none of the irritable lip-sync problem.  example Lilo and Stitch-- the R3 version has F4's music video on an Elvis remake, though we're not F4 fans, their version of "Cant Help Falling in Love" is quite cool.  we get R1 if we need to brush up on our french.

now's your chance to kick off your R1 collection! Disney and Buenavista R1 dvds on sale -- check out firewired's list in the Front Page news topic.  Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage..., the Incredibles etc

Though in general R1 seems to get the better packaging, I guess you can go case to case.  I read Aviator's R3 packaging in Hongkong is 3-disc and superior to the 2-disc R1 package.    And there are a growing number of R3 titles with DTS tracks while their R1 counterparts don't.
