I Saw The Devil 2010 (Korean)

One of the better horror films Ive watched in a while.  My wife felt too weak/scared to watch the scenes involving the (and would be) victims, not because of the visual character (graphic but not overly done - still watchable) but mostly due to the emotional, psychological and extremely disturbing aspects of the situation (most especially on ladies).

The scenes showing the "close associates" of the main villain added some unexpectedly and hilariously disgusting twists, while adding depth to the evilness of the characters.

Cinematography and camera angles were beautifully done; the scenes of complete silence were utterly scary and expressive at the same time.

My only regret was that we started to watch at 11:30pm on a Sunday night (planning to stop at 12:30am) but this was the kind of movie that was difficult to sleep on.  Ended up finishing the entire 2 hours 21 mins movie until early Monday.

The Other Boleyn Girl

It's a visual treat with its all digital 1080p, 1:85:1 hidef transfer using Panavision Genesis HD camera.  The film literally shines and in some occasions, it's a bit too shiny.  I don't know if I like the movie though.  Great acting by Bana, Portman and Johannsen but I found the movie a little bit too dreary.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Fans will be disappointed with the PQ.  It's like watching a DVD, only a bit better in my opinion.  Sound is okay.  Action is still cool with Angelina kicking ass.  But the PQ is really a letdown for me.  Sayang.  Sana i remaster in the future and release together with Tomb Raider 2.

Drive Angry 2011 (2D Version)

No idea whatsoever about this Nicolas Cage movie when I fired the full BD and even as the story progressed, I still had no idea where it was going until near the end, YET for that reason, I kept on watching and enjoyed it.  Lots of familiar actors in cameo roles.  For a while, I thought I was watching a Tarantino film.   After finishing, I had to replay the first minute to appreciate the relevance of those initial scenes that look like video games.

The usual very loud and boomy DTS-HD Master audio during the many action (and sometimes totally hilarious) scenes that I had to control the AVR volume most of the time so as not to bother my neighbors.

The leading actress was pretty hot.   ;)

Vanishing On 7th Street 2011

PQ:  Dull colors and mostly dark scenes but OK details (plasma rules!) - it has to be visualized that way artistically

DTS-HDMA 7.1:   Not bad but nothing special (vanilla HD-audio)

Story:  Pagdating sa dulo ay...WHAT?  WTF?  Ano daw yun?  Hehehe.   But from start to as the story nears the end - interesting kasi nga medyo WHAT?  I could see the TOTALLY WTF/WHAT ending but I was hoping it wouldn't be that way, hence I watched to finish until early morning.

Die Hard

Nth time to watch this.  First time in HD.  Still a kick ass action film.  PQ is average but way better than DVD.  SQ is ok.  Despite its technical liabilities, I'm glad to have this back in my HD collection.  Hippiekaye....

Sonny Boy 2011
Eto maganda talaga.  Maganda story, maganda ang cinematography (something distinctive about European films), maganda ang shots, maganda ang scenes, and again maganda and very moving talaga ang story.

SQ:  Dont expect too much on the DTS-HDMA because this is mainly a drama movie.   The dialogues are very clear, BUT in Dutch, so you spend over 2 hours of reading the Eng subs - but this movie is definitely worth all those readings.

Justin Bieber Never Say Never 2011
May KARAPATAN naman pala si Bieber (akala ko gimmick lang na young talent - hahaha).  The DTS-HDMA is soooooo loud and boomy on the MSG performances but the back stories (the documentary parts) are more interesting, albeit sound is pretty low.

Starship Troopers

I don't care about the sequels but I loved this when it came out in the late 90's. The effects look dated by today's standards but the satirical approach isn't.

Hitman Returns: David Foster and Friends

-a star studded concert of all the groups and singers that sang songs that we love. Featured Kenny Loggins "Heart to Heart" and "Forever", Seal , Lara Fabian sang "Caruso" amazingly and with a duet with Michael Bolton in "The Prayer", Martina McBride, Chaka Khan "Through the Fire" "I'm Every Woman", Natalie Cole, that cute little girl Jackie Evancho with such an angelic operatic voice made me watch and listen in awe, All-4-One with "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That", Earth, Wind and Fire with "September", our very own Charice who nailed Celine Dion's "All by Myself", a great performance by Neyo with his smooth footwork, a peek on the Betty Boop Broadway, Donna Summer ending the concert with "Last Dance"  and so much more. Video is very sharp and could really show off your display. The DTS-HD MA track is just flawless.  Definitely a keeper with very good replay value.

District 9

A friggin' good sci-fi / alien movie.  Movie was superbly done.  The BD was reference quality frame by frame.  Love this ;D This one's for fans of alien movies and for fans of good film making.  Highly recommended!
