The Hurt Locker (2008)

The authenticity of the military spec ops makes me to think about this film. The natural Renner here gives him a name of one of the finest actors that we will see in the next future. 4 out of 5

Beginners (2011)

I really like the idea of a presentation from past to its present especially when it was narrated by McGregor. Mills work more than a beginner and thinking McGregor and Plummer combination is a highlight and especially Plummer being an old gay man, that is just more than hilarious isn't it. Truly lovable and inspiring. 4 out of 5

50/50
(2011)

A picture of an inspiring & heartwarming story combined with Seth Rogen's humor and Levitt's natural acting with amazing screenplay of Levine's brilliance is equivalent of one of the best Comedy - drama that will come out in years. Seriously it deserve more than a Oscars.  5 out of 5

Heat
(1995)

Micheal Mann's Heat defines authenticity and realism. Storytelling is a sleeper and long in a way that cause its weakness with Mann's intention involving gangs, police and their families. But overall it was the best heist film at that time since Affleck's The Town came up. Its a different story.

Nine 1/2 Weeks

For the teens and 20-something in the 80s, this film has got to have arguably the most erotic sexy dance scene of all time.  I've watched this in Betamax, VHS, Super VHS and DVD - and I just have to watch it again in high def.

Unfortunately, the image quality still sucked; heavy grains combined with darkness, dull contrast and insufficient sharpness.  During the time of magnetic tapes, it was understandable I thought - as long as it wasn't film transfer quality.  When the DVD was released, it was horrible based on DVD standards.  And now with BD as benchmark, it sucked even more.  Buti pa yung Killing Fields gumanda kahit papaano in BD.

Surprisingly, I realized how good looking Mickey Rourke was, compared to his current spooky-looking self.

In any case, you can still leave your hat on...jejeje.

Waste of money.  Probably best watched on a 21 inch or smaller CRT.

Harry potter and the deathly hollows 2. I enjoyed it more now than when i saw it on big screen, i don't know why... But the video and audio are awesome. The special feature they call maximum movie mode is like a scripted commentary by some of the cast and crew. It feels gimmicky, less organic but very informative.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (US) 2011

Comparisons with the original Swedish version

1.  Length is 22 minutes shorter than the Millenium edition.

2.  The image quality is cleaner (a lot less grains), has more colors, has more wide shots.  Sweden didnt look as cold, gray and wet as it was portrayed in the original version.

3.  The soundtrack is funkier (both have DTS-HDMA5.1).  The beginning credit sequence was pretty cool I thought.

4.  Most of the main actors look better especially Lisbeth and Mikael, except perhaps for the Millenium boss.  The Swedish actress looked hotter IMO.  The Hollywood actors likewise appear more hygienic (hehehe) - you could almost smell the stink of the Swedish actors (with their oily unwashed hair) who seemed to have not showered for days within the story.  The crooks look badder in the Hollywood version - and the main crook is a familiar bad guy.

5.  Screenplay is more "Hollywood" - easier to understand, lots of clues with regard to the mystery embedded within the dialogue, more streamlined story-telling.  There were some differences in the story here and there but I dont know which version is closer to the book because I haven't read the novel.

6.  Since the dialogue is in native English, the English was more "proper" - more matured, more eloquent.  We can't do anything about this because we don't understand Swedish and the English subs and English dubs were rather simplified - similar to that of Let The Right One In.

7.  The Swedish Lisbeth is more edgy, ugly, rough and dark.  The Hollywood Lisbeth is rather cute if you look closely - and has got nicer body and creamier complexion. hehehe.

In any case, the Hollywood adaptation is quite good - very much worth 158 minutes of watching.

I tried to watch the Special Features (Commentary by David Fincher) but that meant going through the entire 158 minutes of movie all over again, so I'd just do that a little at a time because the director's comments are pretty interesting (thus far).

Like Crazy 2011

Love story across the Atlantic that became more difficult because of visa violation problem.  It's very very romantic especially the first half.  I just don't know if Filipinos would like the ending.  hehehe

Dull image quality, nothing special about the sound quality - but again it's got a lot of romance.  Your ladies would love to watch this with you - but again, I dont know if they'd like the ending - that's the beauty of this movie.

BTW, the leading lady is sooo freaking cute, made cuter not only because of her English accent but also due to the fact that the leading man has a "comedian's" face.

Nice watch!

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

3.5 out of 5

It is hard to tell on how to appreciate Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World but one thing's for sure, the visuals are one of kind that will make a 12 year old stun and fall in love with this.

I think meron katwiran yun iba when they commented why this movie got so many award nominations while HP and the Deathly Hallows wasn't as recognized.

Oh the main actor is the same boy who starred in The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas - very memorable and moving film, that was.

Triangle (2009)

3.5 out of 5

Aside from watching Melissa George hotness and performance. Triangle offers a surprising mystery from a phenomena thinking its just another repetition of suspense cliche, but it just out "mind" us throughout the whole thing .

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
(2011)

4 out of 5

As we we all know the 2009 version of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is much more silent but powerful which gives its first success for the Millennium trilogy. On the other hand, Fincher's version is more likely into the detail with deep artistic cinematography and fast paced storytelling thinking you will not appreciate it on some different scenarios. Still the Swedish version has still the heart to own.

Warrior (2011)

4.5 out of 5 - definitely a watch!

Warrior is one of the best or if not, the most compelling sports drama you will ever see in years. Not just the MMA itself but it will eat your hearts out by its tremendous plot and those brilliant performances. Definitely a memorable killer.

Colombiana (2011)

2.5 out of 5

Colombiana is more likely a rip off of some low budget spy films in the 90's with a very bad screenplay. The only thing that will wake you up throughout are the action scenes and nothing more.

Redline - I'm not taken by the shallow plot, but the fantastic hand-drawn animation by Madhouse is an assault on the senses (although the weird & outrageous designs may not be for everyone). I think this succeeds where the Wachowski's live action Speed Racer failed. An excellent watch just for the animation.

Tower Heist (2011)

4 out of 5

Ratner is trying his best to achieve a cool and fun heist film with a comeback all star cast and he nailed it. It's just hilarious and thinking this might be his most intelligent work of screenplay yet.

Kill List (2011)

4 out of 5

Kill list is simple but brutal. With all the hype of this British suspense, this will pass its thriller looks not to the extent that it will be one of the best. But it remains memorable.

Scarface (1983)

5 out of 5 - Iconic film indeed

Scarface is maybe stupid at times and that's what makes this film such a bad ass. It might be the best mob film with an attitude. Tony Montana's charisma makes Al Pacino a legend that every actors, mobs, gang leaders, criminals or whoever you are looks up and idolizes, which is very Iconic. DePalma is making history. Certainly this film is in every favorites and a must watch.
