Coriolanus (2011)

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Coriolanus is definitely one of those "not easy to watch" films. It is a Shakespeare adaptation that has a setting in a post war modern era. As expected, the screenplay is as difficult to understand for standard viewers. But just to watch Vanessa Redgrave and Ralph Fiennes performances are highly noted. Other than that, it has a curse of the novel's expected boredom throughout. Not really a recommended film for everybody who are expecting for a good plot and a good execution though the acting are just phenomenal to watch.

Intouchables 2011

Wife and I just found a real gem of a film.  This for me is one of the best movies I've watched this year.

It's a French production and unless you speak in French, you would have to keep on reading the subs for nearly 2 hours - but it's definitely worth it.

This is one awesome movie indeed - very very funny but truly heartwarming as well.  Based on a true story.

Oh, the EW&F soundtrack in DTS-HDMA was pretty funky.   ;D

Pls try to watch this in any format you can find - with your partner or friends.  ;)

Silence (Hiljaisuus) 2011

Apparently regarded as one of the best Finnish movies released in 2011.  The setting was the Russo-Finnish Great Winter War but the story revolved around the lives of men and women in the Casualty Evacuation Center near enemy lines whose job was to take full-time (and very good) care of Finnish killed-in action and prepare (beautify) the dead bodies (making sure that frozen dead were properly thawed for instance) for honorable return to their loved ones and burial at their hometown.

Never knew that any country could actually do such thing during WWII.

Very moving drama especially during the latter half of the movie about people living around life and death, in a very cold place where friendship, loyalty, betrayal, craziness, fear, horror, love and dedication all intersect.

Nothing special about the Swedish LPCM and DD5.1 sound steams (but that was the point perhaps), however, the images and cinematography were very beautifully shot.

The Take 2009

This was originally aired as a 4-part TV-movie in the UK, now finally out in Bluray and starred Tom Hardy.  I first became familiar with Hardy's face in Inception but his memorable portrayal of a sociopath crook in this movie was truly something to watch, not to mention the very well written and presented story that spanned more than 10 years.  Hardy's character and portrayal was so creepy and convincing that the Wife wanted to re-watch the funny This Means War immediately in order to reset his image. hehehe

The movie was nearly 3 hour long but I was even hoping for it to be longer.  Awesome!

^ Have not seen The Take myself, but for another brilliantly disturbing sociopathic performance from Tom Hardy, also check out Nicolas Winding Refn's Bronson.

Born To Be Wild (2011)

Rating: 5 out of 5

Born to be wild is simply a dazzling thing to watch. Especially if the video transfer is a well worth watching in IMAX and Blu-ray. It was heartily felt of love for these animals who are worth and ready to be born to be wild. An amazing cinematic documentary experience.

Under the Sea 3D (2009)

Rating: 5 out of 5

Under the Sea is just another impressive entry of documentary in IMAX 3D. The colors of the underworld ocean of the Pacific really enhances our ocean imagination to the next level. This is a must watch for every family even in Blu-Ray. I would definitely buy one.

Thor (2011)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

What's the good thing about Thor is its storytelling. It's too good to be a Marvel film. The execution is awesome, every scene, every screen play is genius. Branagh is just the perfect boss to run Thor in its essence. From the kingdom of Asgard, to its beautiful scenes, and the simple and sweet romance as Thor from the god of thunder down in his mortal presence. Just totally nailed it. Good thing to have Marvel in its constant state of making brilliant superhero films and maybe, this one is the best nor the most memorable.

Watched Indiana Jones and the Crystal skull
and Valentine's Day (ensemble movie trying to imitate Love, Actually)
Both had great video and audio quality. The only problem is that they were bad movies.
Indy's story looked stale in comparison to other adventure movies that have come since and Cate Blanchett was not a formidable, particularly dangerous opponent. In fact, she was wasted here. I couldn't stand Shia.

Valentine's day was predictable and unimaginative, running only on star power. I fell asleep a couple of times.

The Pacific (2010)

Rating: 5 out of 5

The Pacific is one of the best war drama series out there. Impressive job by Spielberg and Hanks giving another shot of making a WWII epic series that everybody wants. Band of Brothers and now The Pacific, its a must have DVD collection especially when a straight to DVD / TV drama is worth a watch. Amazing and breathtaking cinematography overall.

Man On A Ledge 2012

No matter how low the critics' ratings are, this movie was a decent watch for the Wife and I - I actually thought this was some kind of drama movie about a man wanting to end his life - ma-action pala - and we truly enjoyed some Japanese shrimp crackers with drip coffee while watchin as we had no popcorn in the house.

The ending was rather predictable but it was still interesting to find out the details on how the main characters would pull it off.

Im kinda concerned with Ed Harris' looks though - too thin.  Elizabeth Banks seems to have botoxed a bit.  Ed Burns harsh voice still makes me feel uncomfortable and that young latina-looking actress named Genesis has got a real hot body (not so much on the face though).

As for the Bluray itself - the sound and image qualities are both beautiful - just the right amount of grains, sharpness, colors, dialogue clarity (made Burns' voice more painful to listen to - hehehe), rattle and boom for my taste.

Rent, or, Buy then Sell.  hehehe

Terminator 2 : Judgment Day

Wasn't excited to watch this since this is already decades ago but I think this is the first time I saw that scene where they opened Arnold's scalp to reset him and left me wondering if I had seen it before. PQ wasn't shabby even if this is from the 1990s.
