Iron Sky (2012)

Ratings: 3 out of 5

The first half of the film was a spot on. I mean the humor of it is pretty funny instead they put racism in a special and humorous way. Until in the middle of it. I find it hard to appreciate thus it has all cheesy and corny moments that you can get. The presentation is not bad at all with all the neat CGI  extravaganza. Nazi space wars against the Earth is not a bad idea. Though it's become worse when it became more over the top and to say its just another corny thing to watch. Recommended when you're drunk.

The Aggression Scale (2012)

Ratings: 3.5 out of 5

As Scott says, I totally agreed. Its Home Alone though in a hardcore version. A very well made "revenge suspense" in a low budgeted film. The idea is pretty awesome thinking a deaf kid in an aggression scale. The presentation and the plot is not bad until I find the acting more lousy at times. Other than that, it's a must watch thriller.

X-Men First Class

X-ceptioptional X-Flick, second only to the X-cellent X-Men 2

I love how there is no Wolverine in this movie, now do not get me wrong. I love old man Logan however, The other X-flicks tended to feel like Wolverine and the X-Men more than a X-men movie.

Casting is almost there, and characterization of the 2 main leads is great.

I just wished that director Matthew Vaughn waited till the second movie before turning Magneto into the villain we all love.

It would have allowed for further exploration of the friendship between Charles and Erik.

It's a pretty cool romantic comedy with some good action scenes.  Forget the flimsy story and just go with the ride.  PQ is good. Audio is very good.  The gunfight scenes and explosions were awesome.  Not sure if a keeper though.

Osombie (2012)

Ratings: 1 out of 5

1 star for the effort. Definitely one of the early generic crap straight to dvd release this year. Lol for the acting by the way.

Kickboxer (1989)

Ratings: 2 out of 5

One of those early generic Van Damme films. It has all the laughable script and awful acting but Van Damme's charisma handles it very well. I didn't say it's the worst, though all those old school martial arts cover up with 80's old school music is a match.

Safe (2012)

Ratings: 4 out of 5

Now to all the critics who doubts Statham's film as the leading guy. I think this one proves to be his comeback film  in a positive way. It's still has all the Statham's martial arts trade marks though story wise its better this time around. The tandem between Chan and Statham is impressive. The acting is lousy at times but the main thing is, I never get bored watching this film. Its action packed and by means its fully loaded in a right execution. Awesome film to buy on Blu-ray.

Sleepless Night (2012)

Ratings: 4 out of 5

From the cover of it, I was thinking this is as bad as it can get. Though I'm a little bit surprise bout its execution especially when the action heats up. The main protagonist struggles a lot in this film just to save his son. The main attraction that gets me up is the fighting scenes. It 's more realistic and well choreograph with all those shaky camera angles that heats up the action more. There might be some plot confusion. But thinking a well made French thriller bout a "father saves son" thing is humane enough for an action thriller like this.

Green Zone (2010)

Ratings: 3 out of 5

Chasing, more Intel, and anomalies from the US government to the Iraq war. We get it, its war. From the look of this one, you may think of it as more of a propaganda rather than telling a good story. Matt Damon / Greengrass combination never really works without a good plot for those action scenes to fit in. Has the goods of execution but this one just failed to hit the spot as it is much more easily forgettable.

The Task (2010)

Ratings: 2.5 out of 5

The Task is maybe one of the weakest entries at After Dark Films. Though the presentation is there, plot wise its weak and flat. I was bored throughout especially when the acting is as lousy as the movie goes on. Pretty much cliche for an ADF film.

127 Hours (2010)

Ratings: 4.5 out of 5

127 hours is enthralling, gripping, exhausting at the same time and maybe one of the best one man one scene survival film of all. Danny Boyle has just expanded his talent into the next level of directing and proves to widen up the whole Aron Ralston story. I never thought it would be as satisfying yet it will give us one of the best and memorable drama thriller that made survival the most important thing at hand. James Franco's performance was notified and proves he can deliver such a difficult role as this. Amazing and very much recommended to buy on Blu-ray.

Restrepo (2010)

Ratings: 4.5 out of 5

Amazing well documented insights inside a group of heroes in honor of Doc. Restrepo as well as the American soldiers fighting for their lives in the middle of Afghanistan's Koregnal Valley. Maybe the most satisfying of all the military documentary in years.

Armadillo (2010)

Ratings: 4 out of 5

If Restrepo deserves the best credit for a military documentary. This Danish well made documentary deserves another praise of credits as these soldiers made to sacrifice their own lives for their country and their family. Though there are some scenes that they are just having fun that cause its somewhat boredom. But the insights of these soldiers are worth a watch especially when the trouble comes. You are starting to wonder how did they survive for those six months of combat.

The Raid: Redemption (2012)

Ratings: 4 out of 5

Definitely the most bad ass Asian action flick this year. I mean it has the most intense and brutal close quarter combat in a film. The action scenes are well choreograph with well made executions of martial arts moves. The only flaws that bugs me here are the over the top and predictable scenes that made some spot light scenes questionable. Story wise it doesn't  impress me. But overall it's very much recommended and this one definitely feeds your " wanted action appetite ". Like 90% of this film is pure intense gunfight and fighting scenes. A must have and a must see.

In Darkness 2011

Set during WWII in Poland, a gripping, rivetting story of escape and survival inside the dank, dark, stinky, dirty and unsanitary underground sewers - living with strangers, sickness, and the foul smell of all sorts of human waste.

Nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2012 Oscars, a highly recommended watch for any movie fan.
