On the other hand, what RECENT title ran out of stocks before reaching the P299 mark? I can't recall any. The last ones which did not reach or hardly available at P299 were SW Ep II, Day After Tomorrow, Master and Commander.

My point exactly.  So meron pa rin mga titles talaga.  I recall members posted sightings of the titles you mentioned above being available for 299 albeit only a couple of copies at most were circulated.  Not to mention also Alien vs. Predator though being on the 299 list but was hardly visible among store shelves.

Another would be the ever elusive National Treasure for 299.  2 copies lang din yata ang nakita.

Another is The Lion King Platinum Edition

So there are numerous titles that were scarce when they hit 299.  I'll try to recall the others.

Yup, but it seems that Viva has more than adequate stocks of its RECENT releases. I just saw around 4 layers of Pirates 2 (numbering to around 20+) displayed on Music One. And that is just the display part. Even "Cars" which I thought would be a big hit at P550 are seen in almost all stores in big numbers.

Actually, it's quite easy to predict if stocks will run out. National Treasure, AVP, Day After Tomorrow were rarely seen even at full price. So my suggestion is if you see lots of stacked copies around, then you can wait. If you see that the numbers are going down even at full price, then go grab one before they run out. But of course, if patience is not one of your virtues, then go grab one now.

BTW, any reviews from the early birds? PQ/AQ and features-wise?

good analysis, lord vader, its wise to wait a little longer say around jan or feb next year until the prices go down, for me....the price range of 500-700 is ok already coz for a 299 dvd i feel that there are pros and cons for a 299 orignal dvd.

Why did Viva have to put the number "2" on the sides of the slipcase and on the cover sleeve?  It became cheap-looking.  Viva strikes again!  First, it was the typos.  Now, this.   :(

the R1 is the same.. the R1 version has a booklet, as far as i know.. anyway, just viewed this and I can say that the features are identical with the R1.. everything listed on the back of the cover are present in the discs.. including the easter egg about Chopper, the dog..

Here are some images:

Viva is not consistent with the packaging of this release.  The set my wife bought yesterday was not packed in a DVD case with a flap, like the one bought by boredfilmmaker.  The DVD case for our set is one where the discs are on both sides of the case cover.  Kaya tuloy, 'yung insert madaling malukot dahil nasa pagitan lang siya ng cover.  I prefer the flap-type na DVD case.   >:( >:(

Just bought this kanina. PQ and AQ was good, though nakakadistract lang yung 2 sa spine... Pero since yung R1 meron din, di na Viva may kasalanan kaya ok lng... hehe.

Weird lang... bakit pa kasi may '2'!!! ??? >:(

So that if you only buy '2', you'd be wanting to get '1' and then wait for '3' to complete your collection... ;)

I'd only wished that the first R3 'Pirates' would have been in slipcase... para magandang ipagtabi...  But since I bought my 'Pirates 1' at 299, I don't think i have the rights to complain. ;)

Still not sure whether to get this R3 version or the R1 version... kasi at 900, kaunti lang ang difference sa R1.  At 750 or lower, I'd snapped it up without thinking.  Wala kasing re-saleability ang Viva release, in time pagnag-299, baka wala pang kukuha pag-ibenta mo ng 200...
