I read New Line Cinema is now HD DVD, They'll be releasing The Matrix the LOTR Trilogies this year.

Did they defect or they are just supporting both formats?

Samsung Electronics breaks new ground in Blu-Ray Technology

http://news.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/10381/311195.html

"One of the BD-P1200 player’s key new features is its Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processor, which is a powerful unit similar to those used by Hollywood production studios. With its HQV processor, the BD-P1200 player offers true 1080i to 1080p HD de-interlacing, so it can deliver the best HD images possible— even from DVD formats."

New Line is a sister company of Warner under AOL Time Warner.  And if I recall right, they were orginally with HD DVD at the start but have not released any titles with speculations they will release in both formats like its sister company.  But now, avforums.com is reporting it is on the HD DVD bandwagon.  But I wouldn't be surprised if they release in both formats eventually.  I would think that with the dual format disc patented by Warner, those sister companies should have better economies of scale if they just shared the same production plants.

Matrix Trilogy Series home studio is Warner Brothers. Only LOTR is New Line Cinema.  New Line Cinema is a subsidiary of AOL TIME Warner.

I know, but it's part of the HD DVD announcements at CES, so don't ask me why.  Maybe it will arrive first as HD DVD.

CES: 'Casino Royale,' MPEG-4 Support Highlight Sony's Q1 Blu-ray Plans

In what is fast becoming unofficial 'Blu-ray Day' at CES, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment threw its new title announcements into the ring, with a Q1 slate led by the powerhouse 'Casino Royale.'

Offering a somewhat more restrained press release than fellow Blu-ray backers Fox and Buena Vista in terms of disc titles, Sony outlined only their first quarter 2007 release plans for the format.

Divulged in the release are full specs for such already-announced titles as 'Stranger than Fiction,' 'Running with Scissors,' 'Open Season,' 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse,' 'Layer Cake' and 'Vertical Limit.' All are much more feature-packed than originally anticipated, and are a sure sign that Sony won't be holding back when it comes to fully-loaded BD-50 dual-layer releases in 2007.

Of course, the big Q1 announcement from Sony is what is expected to be a very hotly-anticipated format-booster, the latest James Bond blockbuster, 'Casino Royale,' which finally gets an official street date of March 13.

Other announced-but-not-scheduled titles include 'A Few Good Men,' 'Jerry Maguire' and 'Hostel.'

Of course, Sony also crowed about the strong sales of the PlayStation 3, which now puts the installed base of Blu-ray players in the U.S. at over 1 million, which the company will aggressively feed with a healthy spate of new titles throughout the coming year.

"With software sales up 700 percent since the mid-November launch of Playstation 3 and other Blu-ray hardware from manufacturers, the market is poised for maximum impact blockbusters like Casino Royale," said David Bishop, President, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. "This is just the tip of the iceberg for Blu-ray in 2007."

Finally, in a last bit of surprise news, Sony is promoting their toe-in-the-water testing of the AVC MPEG-4 codec on two upcoming Q1 titles, 'Open Season' and 'Casino Royale.' :D :D Sony had previously been the most vocal and ardent supporter of MPEG-2. We'll certainly be looking forward to reviewing Sony's first two MPEG-4 titles as soon as we our hands on them.

CES: Warner Blu-ray Announcements Mirror HD DVD

Unveiled today, Warner Home Video's 2007 Blu-ray title line-up should look familiar to those following the studio's exploits on rival format HD DVD.

In fact, in what has to be a first, Warner's Monday Blu-ray press release is just about identical to its Sunday HD DVD announcement, seemingly aided only by a handy "Search and Replace."

While the studio previewed several high-profile titles bound for Blu-ray in 2007, Warner gave only one new title a firm street date, the Martin Scorsese flick 'The Departed,' which will hit Blu-ray simultaneously with the HD DVD version on February 13.

Other A-list new releases due in 2007 are to include 'Blood Diamond,' 'We Are Marshall' and the animated blockbuster 'Happy Feet.'

Catalog, too, will highlight Warner's upcoming Blu-ray plans, including the much-anticipated 'Matrix' trilogy, all the 'Harry Potter' films, both 'Ocean's 11' and 'Ocean's 12,' plus the Steve McQueen classics 'Bullitt' and 'The Getaway.'

Hopefully, Warner has a bit more exciting news up its sleeve for later in the show -- perhaps a look at the studio's first Total HD combo-disc releases?

Blu-ray Touts Content Advantage, PS3 Impact

The Blu-ray Disc Association gathered its heavyweights for a press conference on Monday afternoon, including the heads of movie studios such as Paramount, Fox and Sony, saying that if anything will win the format war, it’s content. And Blu-ray has it.

Andy Parsons, senior vice president at Pioneer and the promotion chair for the Blu-ray Disc Association, laid out three key reasons why the group thinks Blu-ray will defeat HD DVD: content, hardware and the PlayStation 3.

As of Christmas week, according to numbers announced at the press conference, weekly sales of Blu-ray discs are outpacing HD DVD movies. Content is key to that equation, the group says. "This is what really defines a format," said Parsons. "This is the face of Blu-ray."

Parsons displayed a list of the top 20 DVD sold in 2006, 19 of which are in the Blu-ray camp. Only 4 are in HD DVD's, and only one -- King Kong -- is exclusive.

The second reason -- hardware -- focused on the number of CE manufacturers who, in addition to having Blu-ray players, also manufacture high-definition televisions. "There is a very close association of brand of HDTV monitor and Blu-ray player in our view," said Parsons, noting that the manufacturers are all competitors but all in the Blu-ray camp.

The third reason (and one that I've been arguing for a long time) is the PlayStation 3 (PS3), which includes a built-in Blu-ray player. The group released new survey results showing that 80 percent of PS3 owners plan to purchase Blu-ray movies to watch on their system, and more than 75 percent plan to use their PS3 as their primary device for watching movies.

"We believe Blu-ray disc has what it takes to win the format war," said Parsons. "Consumers are going to have the final word here, and the word is Blu-ray disc."

Executives from Fox, Lionsgate, Paramount, Buena Vista, Warner and Sony announced many of the titles that will be unveiled on Blu-ray disc this year, including Casino Royale, The Departed, The Silence of the Lambs, Harry Potter and the Matrix trilogy. Many of the Blu-ray titles announced by Warner -- a supporter of both formats and developer of Total HD -- are also planned for HD DVD.

CES:Universal A No-Show

In a rather surprising move, primary HD DVD backer Universal Studios Home Entertainment confirmed today that they will be making no major title announcements at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, despite the formidable presence of all studios supporting rival format Blu-ray.

Universal, the sole major Hollywood studio to be supporting HD DVD exclusively, was expected to bringing out its big guns for 2007 at CES -- or at least make enough new announcements to dazzle the early adopters who have been passionately backing the format thus far.

But when we contacted Universal to find out if anything further is to come from the studio out of CES, they confirmed they will not be unveiling any new street dates or detailed title info at all for the duration of the show. The studio stressed that they continue to support HD DVD and are planning to announce new titles "throughout 2007."

We must say, it seems like a strange promotional strategy to arrive at CES with nothing to brag about, especially given the highly visible nature of the show in the mainstream media, and that Blu-ray's showing has been quite muscular.

To be fair, a promotional flyer has been issued to the press and is available on the show floor, listing several notable HD DVD titles expected from Universal over the coming year, though most have already been hinted at in prior Universal announcements. Among the hits due in in 2007 are: 'The 40 Year-Old Virgin,' 'American Pie,' Bruce Almighty,' the 2003 remake of 'Dawn of the Dead,' 'Pride & Prejudice,' the original 'The Bourne Identity' and 'Inside Man.'

The HDMI video and audio works... There is a optical cable port for older recievers.

'Pursuit of Happyness' To Make Blu-ray Debut in March
Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 03:46 AM ET
Tags: Disc Announcements, Sony (all tags)

The $150 million-grossing Will Smith smash 'The Pursuit of Happyness' will come to Blu-ray day-and-date with the standard-def DVD on March 27, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

One of the biggest hits of the holiday season, 'Happyness' is the latest A-list new release from Sony to hit Blu-ray, joining an aggressive winter line-up that includes such blockbusters as 'Casino Royale.'

Though full specs are not yet known for multiple award-winning drama, we expect a 1080p transfer and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track.

Supplemental details are also TBA, though the title will street day-and-date with the standard-def DVD version, which is slated to include multiple extras such as a filmmaker commentary, multiple featurettes and a gag reel. At least some, if not all, of these bonuses should make it to Blu-ray as well.

Sony has set a $38.95 list price for the Blu-ray version.

Stay tuned for full specs, and in the meantime the latest details for 'The Pursuit of Happyness' have been added to our Blu-ray Release Schedule under March 27.

Disney Officially Announces Winter Wave of Blu-ray Catalog
Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 05:29 PM ET
Tags: Disc Announcements, Disney (all tags)

Confirming street dates and specs for its winter Blu-ray line-up, Disney has unveiled details for four top catalog titles, including 'Chicken Little,' 'Finding Neverland,' 'King Arthur' and 'G.I. Jane.'

As first announced during this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Disney will release 'Chicken Little' and 'Finding Neverland' on March 20, followed by 'G.I. Jane' and an expanded 'King Arthur: Director's Cut' two weeks later on April 3.

Each will come with the standard 1080p video transfers and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround tracks. Full codec details are not yet known; stay tuned for complete info to come.

And continuing their impressive increase in Blu-ray bonus features, all four titles will come packed with supplements, including most if not all of the same extras as found on their standard-def DVD counterparts.

Disney has set a list price of $34.95 a pop for the two waves of titles.

Yung isang firmware upgrade ng PS3, naayos niya yung display ng PS2 games na 480i sa display na 480i din. Gumanda din ba yung display ng DVD o walang effect sa playback yung upgrade?

Is this the version 1.51 firmware? It only repaired the pause problem that came from the previous firmware.

In terms of blu-ray playback (games and movies), there is no difference. The USA and Japan shares the same region A code. I did not specify that the Japan version is locked to region 2 DVD mainly because of the topic title.

I have watched 3 movies already on this machine, Kingdom of heaven, Tears of the Sun and House of flying daggers, all of which came from the USA and all of them played flawlessly.

At the start of the PS3 setup, there is a language selection, even games from Japan will be accessible via English language. Sony is said to have a production cost of 900 dollars for each PS3 ::)

Hi guys,

I have a cousin currently in Japan (he'll be back before end of the month) and is asking me if I want to get a PS3 Jap 60gb, 25k to 27k.

Can you please enlighten me and tell me why I should NOT go for it ? Thanks a lot.

Primary use = Blu-Ray Player.

Cheers!!!

my taiwan version specifically states 110Volts ... although I've read rumors that it is autovoltage capable. has this been confirmed ? I don't want to plug my unit to 220 volts just to confirm those rumors :)

It is confirmed.

Some posters at pinoypsx are not using AVR and plugging directly their units to a 220V Source.
Their units are either a Jap or US Verison.

You can verify this from your player or cable which normally mentioned something like "AC input 100v-240v" then it's safe to use in either voltage source.
