DONSOL
« on: Sep 03, 2006 at 07:42 PM »
Caught it at the recent Cinemalaya at the CCP and it certainly deserves a theatrical run along with TULAD NG DATI & SAAN NAGTATAGO SI HAPPINESS.

Beautiful, poignant that explores again the beauty of our countryside amidst the backdrop of a wonderful love story between a woman recovering from the death of her husband and a whaleshark guide.

Angel Aquino's best performance to date! The cinematography is simply stunning.

Saw a TV interview in which director Adolfo Alix Jr. said the local theatrical run will be sometime around November or December.

The cinematography elevates this film, and yeah oggs, it would be more breathtaking if they shot it in 35 mm.

I think Alix would be a better filmmaker than Portes or he could be a one-hit wonder like Abbo dela Cruz (Misteryo sa Tuwa) and Pio de Castro (Soltero).

If Donsol will be his only film, it's really unfortunate as it's really not memorable --- as I've said in my review, it's Armando Lao's Minsan Pa-lite. Looks like he has a script that made it to next year's Cinemalaya's semifinals --- it's about a goat I think. Seriously, he should stop borrowing stuff from other films. It gets tiring.

Even some of my friends who have seen the film agree with you oggs. They say cinematography will not save DONSOL. Its not really a masterpiece but its well-done.

I haven't seen MINSAN PA but I'll put it on my watch lists.
