I just audition Wharfs Diamond and Zaldek at Sound Dimention, their speakers where setup outside their store, I found diamond's lacks in bass but very good in highs and mids a lot of breaking-in should be done, the zaldek really rocks the house like a boom box but I can't seem to hear it's mids, I said to the saleperson "parang wala akong marinig na mids puro bass" sabi nya sa acoustics lang ng place kasi they were set-up outside,

That's why in some  user reviews i've come across with, the Zaldek line is prefered for rock music - emphasizing the bass and minimizing the harshness of the mids.

Anyone familiar with Quad Loudspeakers? A friend of mine is planning to match the 22L (front) 21L (rear) LC (center) with the Yamaha RXV-2095 receiver. Please advise.

Thanks,
AEC

I know the Quad ESL speakers by reputation only.  Have also read about the L series, with the 11L reaping excellent reveiws and a Speaker of the Year award from What Hi-Fi.  I think the 22L is top of line in that series.  As mid-priced speakers, they can make a good match to an equally mid-priced HT receiver that is the 2095.  Most members here have thier yammies matched to other brands like wharfs, missions and B&Ws.  But personally, any good impedance-matched speaker will work well with a good amo.  Some better than others but the differenecs would be so minute as to make them more a matter of personal preference than anything else. Just my 2 cents.

hi losi,

thnks bro, i think i still have to read that...but anyway hows the mids of you 8.3 ? my concern kasi is that i have a relatively big HT area about 36 sgm and most of the time open ang windows. i got a big sub kaya m not so concerned with the lows medyo gusto ko lang ay clear ang MIDS...

Jerix,

I have an 8.3/HK combo and i'm very much happy with the highs and mids of my 8.3...  the lows needs more improvement though.  Haven't sandfilled my 8.3 yet.  BTW, i'm bi-wired and position tweaked.  You can check superman's thread on right positioning for loudspeakers. Good luck!

    Rears: PM80
    Center: PC100
    Sub: PS80

C: Fronts: Aegis Evo One
Rears: Aegis Evo One (kaso ihabol ko na lang to' kasi mejo d swak sa budget kapag 2 pairs agad)
    Center: Aegis Evo Center
    Sub: Aegis Evo Sub

D: Fronts: B&W DM-303
Rears: B&W DM-303 (kaso ihabol ko na lang to' kasi mejo d swak sa budget kapag 2 pairs agad)
    Center: B&W LCM-3
Sub: Velodyne CHT-8 or maybe CHT-10

My opinion, I would either go for the AE or the B&W (in that particular order). Here is link to add for your reference

http://www.aslgroup.com/ae/aegis_evo_one_vs_bw_kef_mission.htm

I'm using AE mainly for audio listening. For HT I use JBL LX 2000 Series speakers and sub. But had I known AE before the JBL I would have chosen it for my HT setup as well.

But then as most of the guys here would say, that's just me. Is is always best to audition them.

Just helping out lang po.

Regards.

thanks guys, i let my ears decide ^_^

chose bw303+lcr3, for subs cht10

yung usher speakers napakinggan ko na sa AA, astig pero i dont feel it for me. sa future tubes na yun hehehehe (sana magkatube ako).

the receiver is taking me back.. 7.1 is an overkill for me (i think). so ill think it over. anyway, thanks again guys.

Hi bigfellow2k,

Im using the same B&W speakers. (602,601,LCR 60 and 303) for my HK330. Im very satisfied. I used to own a Denon 1803 which my client bought and paired it with Mission speakers. I still go for my setup. I suggest you audition velodyne subs and HK recievers.

What speaker matches well with Yamaha RXV-550?
« Reply #171 on: Oct 06, 2004 at 11:21 AM »
Very new ako sa HT with my 2-weeks old Yamaha RXV-550. At present, gamit ko ay generic china speakers, remnants nung dati kong mobile audio set-up, plano ko mag-upgrade ng speakers before christmas 'hope somebody can help me to decide which brand.  By the way, my budget is around 20K for complete 5.1 speaker set, option ko na lang later yung pang 6th na center rear.  Thank you.

For movies alone, I'd say Atlantic Technology or Miller & Kreissel but not sure if it will fall under your 20k budget.

Mission or KEF speakers ang proven kong ok for Yamaha.  Even sa mga What Hi-FI mags, yun ang recommended combi.

If you are looking for a budget speaker set-up you can try auditioning KEF Cresta 30 (Floorstander), 20C (Center) and 10 (Rear Surrounds)

thanks odyopayl.

mukha nga ok yung b2. mataas pa sensitivity. actually im considering it and the wharfs kc front ported pareho (aside from the fact that the wharfs are unbelievably cheap and a complete set costs almost the same as a pair of other brands). medyo maliit kc space namin e.

actually, i haven't really been auditioning stuff. medyo nahihiya kc ako kc nde pa naman ako bibili kaya tanung tanong ako sa mga experts dito.

salamat uli odyopayl.

Wow!  Thanks for the prompt replies!  D best talaga sa info 'tong PinoyDVD, very professional pa mga tao here.

I am starting to narrow-down my search now; KEF and Wharf's leading the pack.  Sa Friday I will visit PrkSquare1 to audition these two brands.

I appreciate more info, suggestions and details, thanks again.

KEF, you could get hold of it at Audio World in Banawe. I think KEF's would be more suited for your budget setup since that sensitivity is rated at 90db compared that of the Wharf's which has 86 or 87db. Kinda hard load for an entry level receiver or amp. Second, KEF's really go loud compared to that of the Wharf's.
