Hi

I'm planning to change the sattelites of my Z-5500 to bookshelf speakers. any reco? budget around 5-7k

specs of Z-5500:
Nominal Output Power (Total) 505 Watt
Max (RMS) Output Power (Total) 1010 Watt
Response Bandwidth 33 - 20000 Hz
Input Impedance 8 KOhm
late reply but might help.  since tangband are good fullrange drivers already, why not DIY a good box for the drivers instead?  :)

Sir, mahirap talaga ang mayaman at madaming moolah.  :D All three are very good speakers. Though with sonus, you need a hefty amp to make them dance. Pero i like the sonus for classical and orchetra music. I've auditioned a pair of Aurum 2way. Very relaxing and smooth pero balanced sa detail though bitin sa lows. I'm sure that model would perform better sa low region. The MAs for me, has tighter lows naman compared to Aurum. You can't go wrong with any of the three! Musical preference na lang ang labanan.

Guys, can you recommend a pair of bookshelf speakers at least 94db efficent to be driven by a 20wpc t-amp?
Alternatively, can you recommend a diy speaker builder for a single driver FR at least 94db efficient (Alnico, Fostex, etc) using double bass-reflex type enclosure in real wood veneer cabinet? TIA.

Klipsch if you're lookin for sensitive speakers. But for a 20w T-amp, baka kayanin niya mga Polk or ibang BS na nasa 91db. Just don't play it at reference levels otherwise, most lkely mag clip ang amp.

You can try TonyT. He can custom built a pair for you. He can even tune it according to your preference.

Salamat sa info. Klipsch is known for high efficiency speakers while Polks has certain speakers that has 90db. Maghanap din ako ng Zu Audio speakers na may more than 95db. Will back read some threads for Sir Tony T diy speakers. Salamat po ulit.

IMHO - Prestige wise, I'll go for the Italian Beauties.  For Classical, Jazz, Acoustic & Vocals, still SF is my bet. In few years time say in Audiogon or even here in PDVD, you will find individuals who will start selling their ACs & MAs, but very few you will find selling their SF unless you are lucky to come across with.

My Analogy is like below:
Aurum Cantus = Jianghuai Automobile Company-JAC Motors (Originally Made in China)
Sonus faber = Lamborghini (Proudly Made in Italy / company is now owned by AUDI-Volkswagen, Germany)
Monitor Audio = MG Rover / Lotus / Jaguar (British Brands but Made in China, Malaysia & India)

So you decide which way / brand to go....Good luck :)

Ok yan. then, next time maka-ipon ka, you can get a higher model RTi then commision your A1 sa surround.

Good pm to all PDVD gurus.

Ask ko lang what sets of speakers would jive well with onkyo tx-nr414. Currently using "chopsuey" set (2 generic for fronts, philips center from old component, and 2 small samsung surrounds from htib).

I like watching movies while si mrs more on music. initial budget of 10k max better if kaya pa lower.

Any suggestions on how to upgrade my speakers gradually?

TIA

Kung 10k ang initial budget you could set up muna 2.0

Check mo Anthony Audio Genesis bookshelf speakers or Wharfedale or Polk Audio TSi sereis or sa marketplace madaming quality used speakers.

For speaker upgraders, pagnakaipon ka ulit bili ka ng subwoofer para 2.1 na set up mo...
Then buy matching center speaker(same brand and series with your fronts)...
Tapos pagnakaipon ulit bili ka surround speakers para 5.1 na set up mo...

HTH :)

Hi everyone,

kindly recommend a bookshelf speaker from these three:

Audioengine P4 http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-P4
Polk TSi 100 http://www.polkaudio.com/products/tsi100
Polk M10 http://www.polkaudio.com/products/m10

it will be used on my pc via a mini-amp like a Nuforce Icon or an Audioengine N22. ;)

Listen to your options then decide. :) I suppose all three can sound pretty good with the right matching. I suggest getting a small sub to augment these speakers though.

Without a sub, check out the MS Carnival 2. They aren't very detailed, but I find them 'easier to enjoy' in the absence of a subwoofer.

I already have a sub (a Wharfedale SW150), so low-end bass isn't a problem. ;)   I've heard both the Polk TSi 100 and the Audioengine A5 (like the P4s, but powered), both are good. I'll audition the M10 one of these days.  :)
