This is perhaps the worst MMFF. The jurors already lost their credibility to me for winning before Melanie Marquez over Jaclyn Jose during the 80's.

But I'm beholden to them for recognizing Nora Aunor's effort in Bernal's HIMALA.

So, this is the way of saving the film industry?! I'll say again Peque's words........"Let Philippine Cinema die!!!!"

...Gloria Arroyo also received a lifetime achievement award. Need I say more?

In fairness to the jurors, they did use a measure of standard for awarding. I doubt National Arists Lumbera and Romero are inutile enough to handout Enteng Kabisote 3 a Best Picture trophy if it weren't for the fact that they were stuck using a faulty criterion instead of their honest judgment.

The jurors for this year's MMFF aside from Bienvenido Lumbera & Eddie Romero:

Julie Borje- Chairman
Rolando Josef- MMDA Chief of Staff
Crispina Belen- entertainemnt editor of Manila Bulletin
Jess Navarro- Film Editor's Guild President
Christine Dayrit- CEB Chairperson
Angie Magbanua- director and talent manager
Dero Pedero- composer-singer
Jojo Pinga- MMDA Consultant

I have so much respect for Lumbera, Romero, Navarro, Dayrit & Pedero.......why, oh, why?!

Even Vic Sotto was surprised that his film won. Celia Rodriguez words regarding MMFF were explosive!

Parang LOTR trilogy. Gets nyo?

I think I am seeing a good light in the recent MMFF award winners. They also even gave awards to TATLONG BARAHA. Now they ain't biased OR too cynical anymore. Back to square one. There is hope for Philippine cinema in this kind of presence recently.

Can you further explain why there is hope for philippine cinema because the MMFF jurors deemed it fit to give awards to Enteng Kabisote and Tatlong Baraha? I don't get the point.

By the way, I haven't seen both movies so I have no reason to judge. just want clarification, is all.

Emailed Dero Pedero and ask what film did he vote.  ;D His musical score for APPLE PIE, PATIS ATBP was one of my all-time fave back in the late 80's.

Agree. Kung nanalo Enteng Kabisote by the cirteria these judges or awards body gave, then panalo talaga movie ni Bossing.

I saw a footage of someone mentioning that Kasal whatever should've won or something. I think it was a classless thing to do (if that was said on-stage and live).

So siya pala composer nun?

I agree, oggs.  What could their votes do if 40% of it lies on the box-office results?  I don't think they are much to blame in here but the criteria itself.
Absolutely no regrets!

That is Malou Santos of Star Cinema.  I think they should avoid making such remarks.  Even Cesar Montano was guilty of such act when Bagong Buwan did not win the Best Picture, again from Star Cinema.
Absolutely no regrets!

Pare, dadalawa lang sila. Ilan ba ang jurors?

Plus, are you sure na hindi honest yung judgement nilang dalawa IF EVER nga na binoto nila ang ENTENG KABISOTE 3?

You just can't be sure that such a national artist may always rely totally on the "said" better movie like LIGALIG or, say, ANG PAGDADALAGA NI MAXIMO OLIVEROS. Hindi lahat ng may expressions for art eh napipili kung student ka ng fine arts, di ba? Ganun lang din ang buhay.

I used Lumbera and Romero because they were the names I'm most familiar with... Kahit isang libo pa ang jurors na yan, kung criteria mo ay 40% box office receipts, then EK3 will still surely win.

They actually did use their honest judgment SINCE they were following the guidelines... magtataka ako kung Ligalig nanalo since it surely failed box-office wise (artistically too, I didn't like it). Also, Lumbera and Romero did publicly say that they thought Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo was the best in that festival but again, since they have a criteria for judging, personal tastes do not play a role here.

According to the words of Bayani Fernando, the film festival isn't about a film's artistic quality but it's commercial viability.  Moreover, he said that the best films are chosen by the public who saw it.  Pag hindi kumita, hindi magaling.  Sa ibang bansa na lang gumawa ng pelikula ang mga film makers who are into "art", at huwag sa bansa natin.

So, he's the one to be blame with this!!!  >:(  Need I say s-tu-pid?!!

Pero diba malapit lang naman ang box office grosses ng KKK and Enteng Kabisote? So it's not like Enteng was so ahead of the pack that they have to give the  award to that movie. And besides I have a feeling KKK will overtake Enteng in the box office in the next few days. Just like the original Mano Po did with that Bong Revilla movie.

Which is exactly why the criteria is a joke. They were basing the box office receipts on pre-award ceremony earnings (not putting into consideration that the film might actually earn more after the awards ceremony)... It's not that close, around 10million I think, which is more than the earnings of Ligalig or Tatlong Baraha. But yeah, Kasal Kasali Kasalo might overtake Vic Sotto's movie, furthering the stupidity of the criteria for judging.

Dapat Box office  award na lang at hindi Best Picture. it's a misnomer that the 'best' isn't the best picture but in the acting awards, the box office results aren't put into consideration. This is a sad development since some moviegoers(like me) decide which movie to watch depending on reviews and the awards night. Pampahatak rin ng viewers ang awards, e. Sana sa deserving napunta. Or have 2 filmfests. One for kids, one for adults since 2 weeks naman ang ban sa foreign films

E di dapat pala nanalo na yung ENTENG KABISOTE 1 & 2 or Vic Sotto's LASTIKMAN ever since.

Ano ba talaga ang criteria?  ???

Nung napanood ko itong statement niya sa TV Patrol kagabi.. Nainis ako sobra.

Sino ba yung mga nanuod ng EK3? Maids? Children? Houseboys?

Yan ba yung mga viewers who can define what a quality film is?

Kung box-office gross lang naman habol niya, next December, what kind of movie will we expect in the theaters?

Get lost MMDA!

Esp. Bayani Fernando... >:( >:( >:(

Did the participants knew beforehand that part of the judging criteria would be 40% of the box office receipts?

If they did then I don't see why what they are complaining about.

So JOSE RIZAL's win last time wasn't implemented with a box-office criteria of judgement? I don't think so...
