Roku is coming to the Philippines!
« on: Sep 11, 2016 at 07:32 AM »

Roku is launching their streaming service and player in partnership with PLDT. Looks like it will include Cignal and iFlix content out of the box. I'm guessing streaming subscriptions will work as well, so using a router DNS fix will allow easy access to US Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu and Sling.

This is very welcome news.  Dati ko na balak bumili nang Roku 3.  The 4 is the model with H.265, but reviews still say the fan is noisy, and is prone to overheating.  If Cignal is included in the streaming, this might be the chance to do away with my Skycable HD.

Wow. But what is the minimum internet speed for that? Or will it be included in the PLDT internet package?

Do you guys think we will have US Netflix access?

roku basically is just the streaming the device, you would need to have subscription packages from netflix etc.

Our problem is access to Hulu, Amazon, etc.

So what we really need to find out from this partnership with PLDT is: How is this really different (aside from the ecosystem, of course) from simply purchasing an Apple TV?

Cheaper than buying an Apple TV? Also, having a Cignal subscription available via streaming will be more convenient than having several set-top boxes around the house.

For Hulu and Amazon on AppleTV, I use Getflix. The same service works on Roku devices.
