KASTILYONG BUHANGIN
« on: Jan 29, 2007 at 08:07 PM »
If there is one film that I like to revisit for sentimental reasons, its KASTILYONG BUHANGIN.

Mario O'Hara's small gem that is a cut above the rest of other love stories in Philippine Cinema along with my other favorites.......KUNG MANGARAP KA'T MAGISING & BABY LOVE.

it was the only time that Lito Lapid was able to deliver an engaging performance...

Yep after that he went downhill except for some action flicks that he did in the early 80's.

The movie was good, not the usual weepy but the song was actually meaningful. No remake for this one, please!

They can't match the intensity of Nora & Lito.

Some thoughts on Kastilyong Buhangin

That final fight in the shower's one big reason why I admire O'Hara's action over Brocka, Bernal, Gallaga and the like.

The final scene where Nora pause for a while, silence, was one of the greatest moving and heartfelt scenes I ever saw in a Filipino movie.

I thought the song "tuwing umuulan" was included in the movie.

Nora sang Corner Of The Sky from the musical Pippin... it's one of my favorite song numbers in the film.

Did the movie came out before or after the hit song by Basil Valdez? Its SOP before that they compose a song for a movie, right?

Thanks, Jo!

So they patterned it after the song? I can still recall the poster of this movie.

not really patterned although the song's meaning was evident in the film's story written by Mely Tagasa....

It's from a komiks story, according to Mario.

Movies taken from a komiks material always make money at the tills during the early 80's.

Would you consider a remake for this one, Noel?

Its interesting to see the other side of Mely Tagasa having penned this film. Very far from her character as Ms. Tapia in ISKUL BUKOL.

Her legacy continues to her daughter Gina, but only limited to small screen.
