radforce: no problem

mario: as of now the ps3 can only output 1080i/p 480i/p for movies and 720p for games. wala kasi syang scaler as of now but it's expected to be fixed in the future thru frimware updates.

most hdtvs accept 1080i naman so you should just let the tv do the scaling.

Nice info found ET414. :) The viewing distance vs screen size chart will be a very useful guide as well. :)

Using the Viewing Distance Diagram from ET414's post, here's another way of looking at the 1080p spec:

The average user usually sits about 9 feet away from the TV.

In order to get the full benefit from 1080p at 9 feet, his screen should measure about 70" diagonally.  If he wants a 40" TV and still get the full benefit out of 1080p, he should sit no farther than 5.2 feet.

Parehong alanganin yata ang options.  Yung isa, sobrang mahal (70" TV kasi); yung isa, sobrang lapit ng distance (nakadikit na ang center table sa TV rack).

yes impractical nga yung mga recommended viewing distance because they're made for movie theaters :P how i wish i could have a 120inch screen but unfortunately i don't think my dad is open to that idea :((

oh i just realized you were talking about bluray in general and not just the ps3 in particular. bluray discs are encoded in 1080p. if you only have a 720p display the tv/player will downscale the image to fit your tv. technically you will lose some detail but as the articles above point out, if you aren't seated at the appropriate viewing distance you won't notice the difference anyway.

The recommended viewing distances were formulated for the home theater environment.

The chart entitled "Viewing Distance When Resolution Becomes Important: Screen Size vs. Viewing Distance" (http://www.carltonbale.com/wp-content/uploads/resolution_chart.png) was written by Carlton Bale.

The said chart was based on the Excel Spreadsheet entitled "Home Theater Plasma / LCD / Projector-&-Screen Room Design Calculator" (http://www.carltonbale.com/home-theater/home-theater-calculator/), which was likewise written by Carlton Bale.

According to Bale, the 1080p spec is relevant for home projector setups because "they make it very easy to obtain large screen sizes" (http://www.carltonbale.com/blog/2006/11/1080p-does-matter/).

Sharp has come out with a 1080p 32 incher..so we can watch as close as 1 meter.    Looking at the panels side by side in stores, there actually is a difference between 1MP and 2MP 32 inchers..if you try to look close enough.

may tanong lang ako..dapat ba naka blue ray disc na player ka para masabing makakapanood ka ng HD na movies? or may kinalaman din ang kung anong resolution yung sa display mo?

basta dapat high definition yung source mo. pwedeng bluray, hddvd, htpc or over the air broadcast if you can get it. limited din ang resolution mo w/ your display. most displays being sold have a native resolution of 720p/1080i. although some displays can receive 1080p, limited pa lang ang true 1080p displays.
