CES 2006: Pioneer Blu-ray Disc Burner BDR-101A

 Pioneer announced today that it will introduce their first Blu-ray Writer BDR-101A for PCs at the CES 2006.

The Pioneer Blu-ray burner BDR-101A connects via ATAPI.
Pioneer says to actually start shipping this Blu-ray drive still in January 2006. The BDR-101A supports BD-R (Blu-ray Disc Recordable) and BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc Rewritable) Blu-ray discs with 25GB capacity. Data transfer speeds achievable with the Pioneer drive are 72mbps.
The Pioneer BDR-101A is still supporting DVD burning. No pricing available yet.

I'm sure its guaranteed that there will be personal backups of HD movies on BD or HD-DVD.

But the P1500 price on the recordable disc makes it a serious deterrent. More the like the overpriced Dual Layer DVD9 Blanks which costs P350 at the least.

The upside... hard drives are getting cheaper and storage possibilities are greater whether it be a standalone, part of a drive array, or as network storage.

HTPC will rule!
