(c/o ching of pex):

here, they (pbb???) attempted some damage control, but it somehow backfired:

http://philstar.com/index.php?p=49&type=2&sec=31&aid=2592

from the artik: "The signs of poverty don’t manifest on Wendy, who keeps herself well-groomed and poised like a former Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism should."

from the comments: "You mentioned "well-groomed and poised". Watch her on PBB,look for videos in YOUTUBE. You can see her legs always up in the seats, even in the dining table. Her badmouth, the way she laughs like a true-blue squatter. Her manners are utterly unacceptable. I am not judging her, I am stating facts I see on TV. So don't write something up about her being poised because she is so otherwise."

I admit that I got the 24/7 feed because of this housemate.   But in less than a week, she did more than enough to make viewers like me hate her so much.    Thats why I cant see anything pleasing about those pics.

Big Brother has a lot of explaining to do

By José Javier Reyes
Inquirer
Last updated 08:41pm (Mla time) 05/17/2007

Okay, that’s it.

Somebody really ought to tell off Kuya now. In behalf of those who still believe that ang telenobela ng tunay na buhay is more interesting than any of the prime time series that morph into an assortment of sub-genres—sinenobela, fantaserye, tele-iyakan, tele-whatever (which actually offer more of the same)— I hereby express my indignation.

Fascination

Ano ba naman ’yan, Kuya?

When the local franchise of “Big Brother” was launched last year, the fascination for peering into the most private moments of everyday people forced to live with each other became an interesting subject for social studies. We Pinoys make a big deal out of the stuff we are made of. Ours is a unique race with a tireless capacity to smile and make merry even on the eve of the apocalypse.

We also have as much of an appetite for overwrought and convoluted real-life drama as for entertainment. We are basically a non-confrontational people but, boy, do we love to watch highly emotional eksenas bordering on the hysterical.

The “PBB Celebrity Edition”" was a big coming-out party for Rustom Padilla. He was perceived as showing his strength by unfurling his vulnerability (“Kapatid … ang tapang niya!”).

At the same time, it presented a side of Keanna Reeves that made hypocrites realize that a woman should not be judged by her plunging neckline.

Objects of media curiosity and ridicule were suddenly ... endearing.

Generally, we are in awe of individuals who exhibit unbridled courage because most of us don’t have the guts to do so even in our personal territories.

Then, there was the “Teen Edition” that uh, produced Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. That, more or less, said everything.

And then last weekend it happened.

Big challenge

Admittedly the big challenge was to make the Second Edition sound and look as interesting as the first. The element of surprise was gone, and the thousands who queued up for a chance to squeeze into Kuya’s house already knew what it was about.

Showing the world what the Pinoy was all about was not the principal motivation for the greater number of participants. Being a “housemate” simply meant media exposure.

Let that be so. After all, Sam and Gerald and Kim and Franzen and Jayson made careers in a few months, where it would normally take forever and a day for a truly talented Johnny Nobody. And let’s admit it: Rustom got a new lease on his show biz life with that coming out, and has now become the heir apparent to Manny Castañeda.

Is that wrong

So what’s wrong with wanting a shot at a show biz career by dressing in silly costumes or playing parlor games and showing the world what you look like first thing in the morning? Is the prospect of media infamy and fortune not worth indulging in no-holds-barred confessions of your innermost secrets—those you never dared tell even your family and friends? So you willingly divulge yours to the world, complete with tears and sappy musical scoring ... so what?

Pagkakataon mo na ito, your one chance for the public to know the real you, the media you. What better way is there to be discovered by others while you are discovering yourself?

But the problem with the Second Edition was evident right from the start. Kuya wanted to bring in everybody. Not just anybody or any body but everyone who had a face and a body.

Whereas the premiere season had distinct and truly interesting characters like Uma, Say, Cass, Nene, Franzen, Jayson, Teacher Raquel and, of course, the biggest winner, Sam Milby … this current generation was plucked from a single phylum: dudes and dudettes.

The boys and girls are all young, healthy and gorgeous and would look good as co-hosts and/or guests on “Wowowee.” Oh, throw in a natural clown with a predilection for shedding gallons of tears with the least provocation, for variety and local color.

Boot camp

Otherwise, the show would seem like a boot camp for the “Philippines’ Next Top Model.”

But what was designed to be the selling point of the show turned out to be a glaring liability: They all look alike.

They can be distinguished only through their accents, for they speak several variations of spoken English.

Kuya must have realized this. That was probably why he brought in the housemates on installment basis. The first batch came clad in pajamas and handcuffs (that implied something kinky but turned out to be silly). The rest were ushered in wearing costumes. Others were hidden in secret nooks and crannies of the house … making some viewers wonder if this was the same set used in “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

For the sake of novelty, the housemates were endlessly being voted in or out of the premises. Just when you thought you have seen everyone, another boarder is brought in until the audience became as confused as the housemates themselves. Kuya, will you make up your mind? Ilan ba talaga ang titira diyan, ha?

Has that cute yellow house turned into Ang Hostel ni Kuya?

Kidnapped

One fine day, the dudes woke up to find one of them had been kidnapped. A few days later, they found a Slovenian in their midst. Now, that must have been very, very confusing for the residents. Why? Because the audience was very, very confused, too, figuring out what was happening.

Then of course there are the usual, yet highly necessary it seems, dramatic moments. But … uh …watching two women scream, whimper and b**ch about a personal crisis founded on something so trivial and then conclude the argument with a threat involving a knife was far from entertaining. It was disturbing. Ano ba talaga ang pinag-aawayan ng dalawang ’yan, ha?

It was bad enough that one of the girls was thoroughly spooking the audience by insisting on talking to a doll. Now there was a potential serial killer in there? Teka, bago ’yan, ha?

One jaded viewer commented, “Hmp! All’s well that ends well rin ’yan. Magyayakapan rin ’yan … mag-iiyakan … and all will be forgiven with a group hug.” Another was disappointed: “Ay, walang saksakan?”

Then there was the whole issue of two housemates na nagka-developan, thus leading the hunk to literally bray like an injured bull when his babe was voted out one tragic Saturday night. Some suspected that the emotional abandonment had been brought about by jet lag from a trip to Slovenia.

And just when everybody thought the hunk would soon be over the painful separation (while the babe was busy waving to the crowds waiting outside the Bahay), a new twist was introduced. Now there is a possibility that the girl could walk back into the house if she is voted in by the audience.

“Hu-waaaaaaaat?” screamed a certified PBB Addict.“Akala ko ba napalayas na ’yan? Bakit babalik pa?!”

Subplot

E, kasi naman, ano? Think of the possibilities. Could this subplot of the separated lovers be developed further? Could this launch the Next Big Love Team? Would they end up in an episode of “Your Song”?

Seen that, overdone that. A better question is, what will the housemates think with this new rule that might be labeled Labas-Masok sa Bahay ni Kuya? Now they must be really, really confused. Well, we are … again.

Whereas “Big Brother” shows in other countries seem to pander to the audiences’ curiosity to catch a glimpse of, uh, inevitable earthiness, trust the Filipinos to concoct their own unique version.

No naughtiness

There is not an iota of naughtiness in the local version, thanks to the La Liga de Laguardia. The slightest suggestion of hanky-panky among the boys and girls and Kuya merits a memo from the MTRCB. Sige nga, Kuya! Dare!

PBB had taken the safest route so as not to give the impression that this is Prime Time Bosohan. In between dancing, performing challenges and making endless kuwentos and confessions, the housemates cook bananacue, prepare halo-halo at pampalamigs to raise P300,000 to rehabilitate an elementary school in the Visayas. Diyos ko naman, Kuya! That, I tell you, will entail a helluva lot of bananas and shaved ice.

So amid all this, why am I particularly bored with the second edition? Why do I feel that the challenges the housemates are made to perform may be as visually entertaining as a game of Tetris but somewhat juvenile and downright meaningless? Why am I simply not interested in the characters of this batch despite all their attempts, conscious or unconscious, to have effective camera presence?

Is it because I feel that Kuya no longer knows what to do with the dudes and dudettes that he has gathered? Is this why he is feeding the audience with episodes that are not only irritatingly repetitive but on the verge of being ridiculous? Is Kuya equally unexcited about this present lot of housemates that he cannot squeeze blood out of them to make them relate to the audience, except for that same-old-same-old hagulgulan in the confession room? Does Kuya also feel, like some of us, that some of the housemates are endlessly performing for the cameras, as if they were auditioning for the next big production of Star Cinema or for an episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya”?

Who cares?

Why is it that, after more than 80 days inside the house, most of us still do not know these people, much less care about them, talk about them or even empathize with them despite their sad stories and endless bickering? Why isn’t there a single one of the housemates interesting enough to win our admiration for grace under pressure or even sanity despite cabin fever?

The answer is simple: We are not made to know them. We see them but we do not know them. This makes it so much harder for us to send text votes for them. Now we really miss the Umas, Jaysons, Keannas and Rustoms of the past editions.

Paki- explain nga, Kuya?

at least we know now that some relevant showbiz people are noticing pbb2's seeming lack of direction. i haven't watched since the balik-bahay scheme was announced... i'm not protesting though, so much as i merely became indifferent to the goings-on. it's become rather pointless for me.

Joey Reyes again proves why he should be on reality shows. I pretty much missed Pinoy Dream Academy except for the times he'd be critiquing the scholars. Now if only ABS-CBN would listen to him yet again.

Just to show how TERRIBLY BIASED PBB is being right now to build up this vomit-inducing love team, Bruce just told Nel, "Nasabi ko na ba sa 'yo, nakasira ako ng lapel mike? Pinalitan namin kahapon."

That's IT? When PBB's Rico ruined a lapel mike, he got an automatic nomination (which led to his eviction). Gee-Ann (?) broke a really ugly vase early this year, and they made her pay for it from the housemates' weekly budget.

Bruce ruins a lapel, and... no punishment whatsoever, since they've manufactured a way for his whore to come back tonight and need to keep him in-house for all that stupidity.

Can we get a rebate on a percent of the live feed payment if we call and cancel our subscription midseason?

I snuck a peek into the feeds and it was exactly at that point when I changed the channel. I also found it weird when I first heard it. Hankey, did you also catch them talking about what their respective "girls" (I'd love to say whores) might be doing outside and both of them talked about Dionne like she is such a pariah?

Oh yeah, and the best part was Bruce actually saying that even if Dionne was that way, ang bait daw ni Wendy when talking to her, since she never said bad things about Dionne. My jaw literally dropped, since... wasn't it Wendy who was the #1 anti-Dionne backbiter? Or maybe #2, just one step behind Maricris.

He must really be in love with the skanky ho, since... love is blind.

And deaf too, apparently.

It is just unbelievable what is coming out of Bruce's mouth and also what the remaining HMs are doing. I am dreading the very inevitable re-entry of Wendy. Sino kaya ang bagong "Pupulutanin", to quote Beatriz. I am thinking Yen is about to become the newest whipping girl.

By the way, I watched the primetime show again last night. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that without fail this week there is always one special daily task that the HMs do, which is most obviously designed around Bruce and Wendy.

Dyogi should just remove all of the housemates and put Wendy and Bruce inside the house along with Buddy. Ganun din naman ang kinalabasan ng show. I think it would be far more entertaining too especially if we get to see how they will f**k like rabbits for the first two months.  Let's see how strong their "TRUE LOVE" is when faced with isolation and cabin fever.

When you look at the live feeds of the four ex-housemates in the secret room, it's usually Zeke, Kian and Jasmin cracking jokes, while Wendy's sitting around looking bored and uninterested, with an "I can't wait to end this stupid week so I can already get back in the house" expression. If I had a million bucks to spare, I'd buy 333,333 worth of votes each for Zeke, Kian and Jasmin, then bribe the cameraman to focus on Dyogi's face tonight when the results show that Wendy didn't make it. A week of prep for nothing!

Have you caught any of the recent Up-Late shows, indie? It's quite interesting, I don't think Linggit and Dyogi are monitoring it too closely, since Mariel reads so many non-stop anti-Wendy/Bruce text messages. She's really funny, since she seems like she doesn't even understand what she's reading, and is just reading words phonetically without any brain processing.  ;D

Zeke's doing impressions of all the eviction nights he watched on TV right now. Earlier he was singing Madonna's La Isla Bonita:

"Last night I dreamt of San Pedro... Laguna..."  ;D

Okay, if he got back in the house instead of Wendy, I wouldn't mind this twist too much. He can annoy Gee Ann and threaten Bea again!

I was watching Up Late until a few days ago. I just can't stand to see Wendy in the wee hours of the morning. I'm too near the PBB house that I could, on a fit of irritation, walk towards the back wall and yell to the housemates, hehe. I have caught Mariel reading those negative messages on air. I think she really doesn't really process what she's reading -as long as a piece of paper is thrust in her face she'll read it. She did defend the show one time though when a message she read came from an irate viewer who was accusing them of not reading anti-wendy messages. Mariel said that they do read these messages -- and as proof actually looked for one in the sheet she was holding, hehe.

What I love to watch though is the show after Up Late. Have you seen this show, Hankey? It's Games Uplate Live and it's hosted by Jaymee Joaquin. I swear, everytime she does that provocative grinding of her hips as part of her choreography when saying "Games Uplate Live!" every single cell in my body wakes up, hehe. Now Jaymee, I wouldn't mind going into the house. Hopefully she gets to be included in the Celebrity Edition if ever they do make one after this embarassing second season.

Read in other forums that BB made the HMs fit inside a smart car......and with the heat and humidity, with only an inch or two of the windows open.......were cramped like sardines.  I think they were there for two hours.  I catched the end part of the task when BB let them out of the car.   They were bathe with sweat and were grasping for oxygen.   Saicy vomited, while Gee-ann was near collapse....even hinting that she couldnt see.   Then...the logo appeared.   I think for medical emergency.

ISNT THAT EVEN RESPONSIBLE FOR ABS AND PBB TO DO???    IF I AM THE MOTHER OF SAICY AND GEE-ANN.....I WOULD SURELY RAISE A HOLLER ABOUT IT.

BIG BROTHER>>>>what a stupid task.......you really have lots of questions to answer...

Super stupid talaga considering it was done in the late afternoon ata in the middle of summer. The guys who concoct these hare-brained tasks must not read a lot. But frankly, aside from Gee-ann and Yen, I really don't care what happened to the HM's I'd even be happy if most of them got forcibly evicted because of medical emergencies. Karma's a b*tch.

It's complete bullsh*t. Highest voter turnout daw for this season. How could a contestant who got the lowest score in the 4th eviction night then get more than half of the votes on what, again, has been bragged about as having the highest voter turnout. Para na ding sinabi na ayaw ng tao kay Pichay sa recently concluded elections pero kung magkataon na mag-open ng extra seat sa senado at magbotohan ulit, topnotcher na sya.

And now they are allowing Zeke in because he got the lowest number of votes. Yes, the lowest number of votes. It's so absurd I don't know if I'll laugh or hit something.

Oh, and have you noticed that poor, squatter-raised Wendy who does not even know if she'll be invited back to the house is wearing a whole new set of wardrobe? From the jammies to the bikinis, lahat bago. Dapat siguro squatter na din ako sa Malabon.

Wala na talaga credibility abs-cbn....dyogi and pbb.

Wendy got the highest percentage of votes at 54%.

Toni Gonzaga proclaiming that this week's voting is the highest in this season.

And to think most didnt even voted this week because they were turned off by the scheme.  Myself included.....

The set-up is so obvious...you cant see  any trace of worry in Wendy's face at any time during the show.

I think Kian and Wendy will be the shoo-ins to return.

As predicted.

The entire Balik Bahay set up is really ludicrous. It's even worse than what happened in the UK.

What ABS-CBN has done is fraud. They took people's money to evict Wendy, then brought her back. Maybe they didn't realize people actually vote AGAINST people sometimes, and that's what happened the week she was evicted. They stole money from people by bringing her back. Wala bang class action lawsuit?  ::)

The good thing is: Much like American Idol, I'm done with the season. Now I have more free time to watch my DVDs!  ;D

i do hope somebody tries to get into the bottom of this. i smell a fish here... not just something fishy. wendy at 54% at the highest voter turnout daw kuno. last eviction people were voting left and right just in order to vote out wendy, so yun maniwala pa ako malaki turnout noon. if at all, siguro namakyaw ng vote cards sina direk just to save face.

I haven't had the chance or time to post in this thread since it's started since I usually had to catch up on reading but today I have to release this pent up emotion about this Wendy biatch.

When she was evicted, I rejoiced like hell and was so freakin' happy it felt like I won the multi-million lottery draw  ;D.  I really can't stand seeing the constant Wendy antics before she got evicted but when she was nominated, I really thought my viewing nightmare will soon be over so I just changed channel whenever she's doing again her vomit-inducing ways on live tv..... then eviction came and I thought nightmares were over.... I was wrong..... very wrong.  >:(

In my mind, i was almost sure she'll get the lowest vote... wrong again.... maybe true, because, I feel it's obvious that the only purpose of the balik bahay is just balik Wendy scheme they're trying to mask as selection among the evicted housemates when the only purpose of which is to bring back Wendy.  So, it's short of saying they actually voted for this devil girl for her to win, not the votes from the televiewer.

I'm wondering if those who voted for for the other housemate for her to be evicted are thinking of getting a refund as they feel they'd been had by Joga and company.

Well, as for me, starting today, PBB is now banned in our house.  I just can't stand it anymore.  Enough is enough.  >:( >:( >:(

Just to show how stupid this entire balik-Wendy scheme is, let's do the math:

The Big Night is already set for JUNE 30 at Araneta Coliseum - six weeks away. With the nine remaining housemates, it would've been perfect - one eviction a week, leading up to The Final Four just in time for the finale. Now they added two. So, to accomodate Wendy (and Kian, kunwari), two weeks will actually have to be double evictions. It's very unfair for those who've stayed in the house this entire time.

Stupid!

Time to become a Ka-Puso.  ;D

i still can't believe the numbers they cited. when toni said wendy got the highest number of votes i was dumbfounded. i can suspend my disbelief when she said 54.04% coz many supporters of the other housemates boycotted this voting and may chance talaga mag-no. 1 siya given that scenario. but when toni said this is the highest turnout so far it really doesn't add up. ganun ba karami silent supporters ni wendy and all this talks sa mga forums eh all bark and no bite?

I'm guessing it was the highest turnout because the powers that be that wanted Wendy back in needed to cover the difference of the other votes to make sure she got in. So it's those who normally voted (actually a little less this time I suspect) plus a signficant amount of votes from Dyogi and minions to make sure Wendy gets over her humps, este the hump.

Hindi lang pala sa senate elections may dayaan, pati sa PBB votes nagkakadayaan na din. I'm really pis sed, and it's not even because Wendy got in. It's because we televiewers have been treated like a bunch of idiots and morons and expected to just swallow everything they tell us with no resistance. Nakakainis.

Mas matindi pa kamo at mas predictable.   ;D

At bakit si Jasmin ang ginamit nilang pantapat kay Wendy? Why not Dionne? Eh alam naman ng lahat na mahina ang hatak ni Jasmin sa tao.. The BALIK-BAHAY SCHEME REALLY SUCKS!

Lauren Dyogi should win the Best Director and Best Screenplay for this show. Good Script and Very Good Direction!  >:( ;D

Wendy and Bruce both claim that they only met each other in the house right?

Well, check this website out..

http://www.mercatormodels.com/home.html

Look at their models -- fashion models/male and talents/female.

Even in an agency as big as Elite or Ford, talents know each other. Dito pa kaya sa Mercator? The lies are starting to unravel...
