Samsung LA32R7, PS2 Slim and Progressive Scan
« on: Mar 11, 2007 at 09:41 PM »
May mga questions lang ako mga gurus about the compatibility of my LCD TV and the PS3 (planning to buy).
The PS3 connection daw is HDMI and needs an HDCP compliant output (LCD, TV etc).
Meron din naman component output ang PS3 (as far as I know) so pwede din yun na lang gamitin.
Pero I Want to fully maximize my LCD to bring out the best graphics from the PS3 -- be able to play games (at least) in 720p resolution, mas ok sana kung 1080

Given this if I have an HDMI connector (HDMI-HDMI) will the PS3 work with my Samsung LCD?
Or HDMI-DVI dapat gamitin ko (kasi sa iabgn thread ganun ginagamit nila for thier LCD monitor)?
Is my Samsung HDCP compliant?
Generally how will I be able to hook up a PS3 to my LCD TV and get the digital output.

Thanks.

The information you're asking can be found in your LCD TV's Operation Manual.

And most of them were talking about LCD monitors.
So I thought parehas ang connections since I have a LCD TV.

Haaayyyy. At least now I know how to optimize my (future) PS3. Hahaha!

To answer your question, YES, use an HMDI to HDMI cable.

Pero correction lang (see caption in bold).  PS3 has the HDMI output; and the TV's have the HDMI input (not the other way around).

Thanks.

Since HDMI is also carries AUDIO signal, you don't need the optical out if you have a AV amp w/ HDMI inputs. But if your AV amp does not have HDMI input, you can setup the PS3 to pass the AUDIO signal through the optical output. However, if you want to access the Multi-Channel PCM Surround sound, you'll need a AV amp w/ HDMI inputs. The PCM surround sound won't work through optical, you'll only get a bad pro-logic signal.

Haaaayyyyy...hindi na ako naka-sunod.

This may be different (or the same) from kobe's question pero ask ko an din.

So if I am using a HTiB for the sounds how can I set up my PS3 and LCD TV?
Ps3 HDMI Out (video and sound) to HDMI IN of the LCD TV.
TV Audio out (via component or whatever cable) to the HTiB's Audio In.
Turn on PS3 and TV (set to video) and turn on HTiB and set to Aux.
Will this work?

PS3 Only Outputs Audio or Video Signals to one media at a time.

If you set the sound to output through HDMI, no sound will be output sa Optical.

Ganito na lang gawin mo:
For Video Out, Use HDMI or Component Video.

For Audio, use Optical.

All PS3 Games are in Dolby Digital. Processing taken care of by Cell Processor.

Now, dito ko naisip na dapat pala dalawa ang HDMI Out ng PS3 TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF LOSSLESS AUDIO as those LOSSLESS audio only passess through HDMI.

Kasi If you use the HDMI for Video, you only have the Optical to connect to your Receiver. In this case, Dolby Digital lang madinig mo or DTS.

hmmm... you've got me confused there. di ba if you use the hdmi for audio, that means kinabit mo siya sa receiver. now, kung me hdmi in yung receiver mo, more likely than not eh me hdmi out din siya to use for your display.

Pero kahit na i-konek mo ung HDMI to a receiver then HDMI to an LCD, I dont think it is still 1080p.

The video 1080P signal will pass through the reciever and still reach the LCD at 1080P.

I'm playing God of War right now using y PS2 slim.
When I pause the game there is an option to change the game setting to Porgressive Scan.
So I set it to "ON" kaso the screen blacks out and returns to the meni after around 10 secs.
Kaso naka "OFF" pa din Progressive Scan -- then there is a message that if the TV doesn't supprt progressive scan that's what eexactly will happen (black out and return to menu)

How do I set progressive scan on the Samsung LA32R7? TV ba problema or PS2 disc?

Generally, progressive scan mode is activated by holding the Triangle and X buttons down after the PlayStation 2 logo appears as the game loads or in the game title's options menu.

So ibig sabihin nito kahit na mag component cable ako (meron kasi sony component cabls for PS2) walang difference sa output? Will I be able to use Prog Scan when playing?

OR kelangan ko talaga ng HDMI to take advantage of the high resolution on my LCD?

Hooked it up and there was a very considerable difference in the graphics.
Then tried the Prog Scan mode ng game and nag tuloy na siya.
Better graphics than after using component cables.

Aprang yung mga nasa video shops na" :):):) And she was sceptical when I was looking for a component cable -- saying na wala naman siya nakikita na difference :):):)

just bought a good quality component video cable for PS2 at toy kingdom (SM southmall).  Walang brand na nakalagay.  It comes in white box (says compatible with Ps2/Ps3) and costs P799.  Has component video + Left and Right audio cable.  I was about to buy the Dragonplus for P350 at Festival Mall but I saw this one and this one noticeably has better quality (thicker cable/insulation).  I noticed significant improvement over composite cable, when connected to my Samsung LA32N71 LCD TV.  Good buy, if I may say.
