Is the sound more like a thump?

Maybe it is what they call "power on/off thump."

In what order do you power on/off the components in your system (i.e., cd player, preamp, etc).

If the sound is very slight, I would not worry about it, but if you see the cone of your speakers moving a lot, then you need to have your amp checked.

For turning on, sources first then the tube amp, for turning off, tube amp first then sources.

What brand of tube amp are you using?

My Audio Space KT88 PP also have the turn off thump, but not turn on thump. I was nervous at first, but then I get used to it. Why don't you ask the maker of your AMX if its normal, just give Phasetron a call, they are nice people.

On my DIY SE KT88, I don't have the turn on/off thump problem.

HTH.

mine is also an AMX (EL34 nga lang) ... procedure of turning ON as advised by Phasetron people:

1. follow the order of powering up the system chain as suggested by AlexG
2. when turning on the amp... put the switch on STANDBY mode, wait for the filaments of the tubes to glow,
    normally 15 to 20 secs.
3. put the switch to OPERATE mode once the filaments are glowing (fired up).
4. follow the order of powering off as suggested also by AlexG.

Hope these help.

(Nakatube amp ka na pala, di na ba magawa ni Ric yung SS amp mo?)

Make sure the volume is turned down when you turn on the amp.

Pag meron pa din, try putting contact suppressors (R-C filter) across the power switch.
