Joan of Arcadia
« on: Sep 02, 2004 at 01:14 PM »
Has there been news on whether any station, local or cable, is planning to air this show? I've managed to watch one episode and I'm hooked--it's a great show, and will do wonders for anyone who's having a crisis of faith.

The show's theme song is a very familiar song, one of my favorites of long ago--"One of Us" by Joan Osborne, which is truly perfect for this show, as she sings "What if God was one of us?"...

Finally, we'll get to watch this nice, little quiet series soon--etc has picked this up, and has been showing "coming soon" teasers.  8)

Excellent first 3 episodes so far...I like the way the characters are so "real" without being contrived and pretentious, unlike, say the Camdens of 7th Heaven, who have turned into caricatures a long time ago.

The writing is great--love the snarky way Joan and her brothers talk--even God can be snarky, heh.  ;D

i think this is an excellently written show... irreverent in most parts... profound in some. i just hope the ratings hold up.

great cast too... joe m. and mary s. are, as expected, great... and the kids are quite talented too.

amber tamblyn ... hmmmm. she reminds me a lot of a younger jeanne tripplehorn. she plays the central role of joan quite well. she has that "confused kid" act down pat. ha ha ha.

and jason ritter... well, he hasn't been given much screentime to shine but he seems okay. personally, i think he looks more like jim carrey's son rather than john ritter's LOL.  :P

Sadly, the ratings didn't hold up--Joan of Arcadia has been cancelled. So Season 2 is the final season.  :'(

Last week's episode, "Jump", was one of the best yet. It's difficult not to be moved when Joan's mom read the note from Adam's mom.  :'(

this is a great series... too bad it got canned.

the emotions are heartfelt and real.
especially during the scene where joan called his estranged uncle, and him ultimately visiting the Girardi household and creating an upstir. and the episode where his brothers got into an argument in the car.

Highly recommended series. watch it if you get the chance. you wont be disappointed.

will definitely grab the dvd set of this.

^^ Not really, but better.

In Touched by an Angel, we usually see those divine beings and their plans. In Joan of Arcadia, we just see God in different guises talking to Joan--we don't know what His plans are, as the show isn't seen from His point of view, and the camera doesn't follow Him around.

The Girardi family is probably one of the most "realistic" families ever portrayed on TV; the character of Will Girardi (Joe Mantegna) reminds me a lot of my own father, and the writing and dialogue between characters is excellent--it's never sappy, contrived or unrealistic, unlike those kids from Dawson's Creek who spout dialogue like 30somethings.

The 1st season was superb, but I've heard lots of negative feedback about the 2nd season. At any rate, the DVD set of the first season merits a place in my collection.

My sister and I are new converts to this show since we got hold of the first season DVD. Was the second season already aired on ETC? I saw Monday airings at 8am but it's still on season one.

After seeing its replacement on Studio 23, it's indeed hilarious! I hate Jennifer Love Hewitt now.

I've caught some episodes of the second season on QTV. It seems disjointed from the previous season. The actors who played God weren't as compelling as the first season's.
