I "heard" that it is a very quiet preamp, no hum or buzz!

Way to go! How does it sound? (I have a pretty good idea how it sound.)

Congrats to Edrel and Dana.

Mauubos talaga ang stock ng 7193 once people hear this preamp!

It sounds like "the singer and the band" is HERE!

Of all the preamps that I have the pleasure of listening this is my favorite, next will be a 12b4 preamp.

Unfortunately, the 7193 is quite susceptible to hum and interference, but once you take care of these problem, it is a sweet sounding preamp, not too colored, just enough for good vocals. I did a side by side comparison of preamps based on the 7193, 12b4 and a 12au7, the 7193 and the 12b4 (ArnoldC's 12b4 circuit) are my #1 and #2 respectively, the 12au7 (old foreplay) is #3.

The original design uses plate resistors and cathode resistor (no bypass cap), TonyT suggested for plate choke loading on the first 7193 that Edrel made.

On my build, I used two smoothing chokes for the PSU, a tube regulator (which I cannot hear the difference if I take it out, but it looks COOL!) and no electrolytic. I used LED cathode biasing on mine with plate chokes, and I like what I heard. I will try cathode resistor someday.

Anway, Dana's 7193 preamp is version 3... Of all the three 7193 preamps that I know (Edrel's original, mine and Dana's), Dana's should be the best. Edrel further improved the PSU and wiring and Dana's is hum free.

I hope that Edrel can finish it soon.  ;)

WTF WAAAT? totoot ba narinig ko? - the price is so very right! presyong 'tol! sagana sa rekado at sahog... trannies/chokes pa lang ulam na! nice shiny chassis pa- simple pero rock!

sana magkaron uli si gerry ng stock or ibang exotic tubes naman.  :)

Uyyy...Im missing the fun. :)
Posted na pala...
Just got logged in today...absent po khapon sa opis, where I do most my online ek ek...

Firstly, the thread title should be...EDREL's CORNER: Audio Toys,Transformers, Tubes, Tinkerings, etc.

Edrel, please re-title it., since I wont be able to sustain it. I mean, u have many things to offer in the forum that others
have yet to discover....

Secondly, about the 7193 preamp, It was love at first sight with that horny tube...medyo kakaiba kasi sya, cute na  with nice
matching specifications sheet pa raw.  My instinct tells me, how  could I go wrong. Tonyt, Owediah, Edrel and Alexg
like  them too and offers technical services for free ;D, tapos may Mang Gerry 'The Tube Magnate'  pa tayo na very accomodating...kaya I went  ahead na...DEAL, kumbaga...

The last question is to DIY or asked Edrel... I went to see and chat with Edrel first and visited his plant (actually,
his 'audio playground' ;D ;D ;D), since we are just neighbors here in Cavite. I asked Edrel finally to commision me this
horny preamp.

I went to Edrel for his experience and resources. Edrel makes fine transformers : output, power type, chokes. They are accurately machine wounded using brand new & not recycled parts, that is, wires,cores...Added bonus, he likes Audio too and is deep into Audio tubes ( you should visit his playground & see his stash of exotic tube collections here and there, im sure dami pa nakatago sa playground nya ;D)...

About the 7193 Preamp Construction by Edrel:
The chassis is very nice:Aluminum plate (t=?), with hardwood plinth base on the sides & back
The Layout is very clean.
7193 tubes (2pcs, national union brand). 6x5 ( 1 pc, rectifier tube, rca brand)
The wirings and points are cleanly soldered and shining.
Two inputs/1 output feature.
The parts used, Edrel only knows ;D...He is choosy and  has  lots of them in stock  to choose from, dpende sa experince and feel nya).

About Initial Sound Impressions?
Im not so good describing what I hear. But I liked much what I heard.
Initial Sound impression during the initial power up:
Hum and noise problem is not there, Edrel tamed them out.
The low to high frequency response is there and seems neutral to me & flat. Overemphasis in the fresponse was not observed.
The vocal  quality is luscious, the instruments are airy.
The music is very involving. In short, Cute ,Maganda  at Malandi sya tumunog :D.

Special credit also as mentioned by Edrel, goes to Alexg for improving the circuit which I believe Edrel applied in my
preamp.Alexgs' preamp uses the OD3 tube, yung sa kin wala :(.

Our Man, EDREL went back to his lab to do some more tweaks, I understand: beefed up more the psu and do the  other magical tricks.

When finished, the chassis Aluminum plate will be black, sporting a chrome plated bells for the  chokes and stain-finished hardwood plinth base.

Couldnt agree more with Bono, Edrel is the Man
Just pm this nice guy if u have some requirements: audio diy, transformer, parts...
With Edrel's expertise/resources, Im sure he can do a lot of favor to the local Audio Community first then who knows, with internet thing, baka mag-global pa ;D.

In the coming days, Edrel im sure will gladly share the circuit diagram to those who want to make their own, for this is the essence to enjoy this hobby. As AUDIOKARMA quotes, All Audio, No Attitude.

Sa mga Audiofools who posted, sure naman, u will get to listen it sa haus with matching food  session, kayo pa!
My problem now is where to match it with ;D- i told you, love at first sight lang talaga nung una...
Might as well pair it up temporarily with  my Pioneer SS vintage, SA-8800II ( with preamp-main amp buss bar connection).

Glad to know that I made the right decision, 7193, EDREL & Audio BIs ;D ;D ;D.
This is a super cool looking horny audio  thing!
And its' my toy  ;)

Edrel, please explain  further what you cooked for me,kinakapos na ako sa adjectives ;D ;D ;D

Edrel, re-title it  please, pa humble ka pa jan...post the other toys u made and still being cook-up ;D
Danas' pre amp is just  a starter...

Thanks!

Oweidah-san...pls pm Edrel for pricings.. I actually, reserved two pairs of 7193- one pair (which alexg eventually got) was originally intended for you... :D

Rascal...kaya di makabili ng ibang gears because of this :D...now you know... ;)

Hello Mang Gerry, please take hold of your 7193 stocks at baka may mamakyaw na naman. Please set some quantities available to give others interested a chance to try this :D

Alexg, year of the horns yata ngayon.Bubuhayin mo na ba ung unicorn mo, 832s??? ;D

To all those who have expressed excitement and congratulatory remarks, salamat po. Now i would like to mention that this is not my just my work but an effort made from several discussions about the very first prototype and succeeding diys made after the 7193 tube. I was hesitant at first when i glanced at the looks of the 2C22 (7193) but since Gary Kaufmann has very nice comments w them, i decided to make a similar preamp out of his circuit:

http://www.the-planet.org/linestage.html

Going on further, i found out that the 7193s are very susceptible to hums and oscillations. Well, i am a guy who doesnt mind some hums as long as it does not interfere with the musical program, and they are microphonic too but the lush sound that has came using this tube, to me shows a lot of promise. Tony T (many thanks to him) who had paid me a visit brought along his diy chokes and suggested to install them w the proto. I liked what I heard after installing the chokes. Here was the old prototype:

Now alex after i posted this pic at his own diy thread expressed interest with the 7193s. Rest is history. He decided to make a choke loaded 7193s, led bias pa..Now since he and his wife are very sensitive to hums, he decided to "usually" cut short his time sa office  ;D ;D and make research and trials to exorcise the hum demon, finally reducing it to a very tolerable level. His findings, i implemented with this preamp (swerte ni don  :))

Am not through yet w the pre nagtetweak pa, to those who would like to audition pwedeng pwede, we would like to bring the best out of this preamp so that listening comments are most welcome. Time out muna, punta ko sa lab... :)
