Blu-ray Celebrates Black History Month with The Color Purple and Malcolm X

Warner Home Video will celebrate Black History Month in 2011 by releasing re-mastered versions of Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple starring Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg, along with Spike Lee's Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett, on Blu-ray Disc for the first time.

Actually, it's already been released on BD in Europe:

But it's not a good release. It's the short version (theatrical cut, not director's cut). Picture is soft. No special features.

The Philippine release at the Astrovision stores now is the UK version.

Havent seen any professional review but my unprofessional eyes are telling me there is nothing special about the image quality at all - or I simply cant understand Spielberg's artistic whims sometimes. What's the aspect ratio of the US release? The EU version is WS full screen - hence sucks because it feels like watching HDTV without those black bars - hehehe. It reminds me of the first release of Se7en.
