The seller of the tube amps and preamp that Im auditioning told me that when the setup was placed in a metal & glass rack - the sound was 'bright'. He even called in 2 witnesses to verify what he heard and they agreed to his findings.

I really dont know if this relates more to Tubes than SS........and I actually dont have the resources to verify but just to be on the safe side - I would be going for wood in making a rack.

very nice info brader Mac (kagawad pala)...  ;D

also some are using wooden blocks (commercially available) as footers instead of spike... another on I stumbled on ebay selling custom made rack commented that not all woods are the same. He mentioned that a certain kind of wood has better  effect in sound character of any gear sitting on it...  :o

i must agree here kagawad no less, i went to brader tony(trod) who sells bass traps, diffusors and have seen his set up sitting on thick block of wood akala ko maganda lang tingnan may epekto pala sa tunog

very cool looking talaga brader Tirso....  :o  :o  :o

when I transfered to new place (where am staying now ) all furnitures are in wood finish if not solid pine wood...  ::) & all non-wood are slowly being replaced...   8)

like this chair from IKEA...

We have something in common brader Mon! My wife and I as well go for wood finish. Our bedroom is all natural wood finish except the HT ofcourse. ;D

Dito sa may Sucat - may row ng mga sash makers malapit sa Manila Memorial - they make various custom furnitures.
You can provide your own hardwood if you like tapos sila nalang ang labor.
