This thread aims to compile a list of great scenes on your favorite movies, which is of course, all on DVD.

So far, I took note of only 1 good scene on DVD (as this was the last DVD I watched this week:

Three Kings: Chapter 10, approximately 38:00 minutes into the film. First time I watched this scene, I was holding my breath. This is the turning point of the movie. It shows the first move of the protagonists in protecting the Iraqi rebels from Saddam's soldiers.

I was watching Excalibur again the other day and there is one scene towards the end of the film that stands out for me.

***Spoiler Alert*** (Just highlight the following text if you want to read)

It starts off after King Arthur has drank from the Holy Grail and rides off to fight Mordred and his army. There's a great scene where Arthur and his knights are riding off through the dying land; and as they pass, the land literally comes to life. Really great visuals and the song, "O Fortuna" playing in the background adds to the power of the scene as well.

One of the greatest moments for me, personally is this particular scene (and I'm not kidding) in Something About Mary. It's the whole scene with Ted Stroehman (Ben Stiller) in Mary's (Cameron Diaz) house with her parents. Casting David Keith in the role of Mary's father was a stroke of genius. I was laughing my head off. It's one of those scenes that I enjoy watching over and over again.

I wish I hadn't read that (re Excalibur ). I haven't seen the ending yet. I rented the VHS (gasp!) but didn't finish it, so I ordered the dvd which I still haven't received. Anyway...I couldn't help reading since this was on the "recent posts" page. Sigh... don't worry, I'll steer clear of this thread.

Oh yeah, another greatest moment. THE greatest in my book in fact. Superman catches Lois Lane *and* the helicopter in Superman 1. Classic! I still get get goosebumps every time I watch it, and I must have seen it like 30 or more times now.

What about the good old Comm Major film appreciation class stand-bys, such as the climactic sequence in The Godfather where Michael Corleone "ties up loose ends" (permanently) with his family's adversaries, intercut with Michael at his son's baptism. For me, that is one of the classic cinematic sequences. (Oops, this one isn't on DVD quite yet, but later this year...)

Another is the death of Bonnie and Clyde, from the film of the same name.

The scene in Jaws that shows Brody (Roy Scheider) ladling chum into the water, grumbling that the shark never shows itself, while behind him the shark rears out of the water. Brrr.

When Han, Chewie and the Millennium Falcon come screaming out of nowhere to blast Vader's Tie fighter off of Luke's tail so that he can blow up the Death Star, in Star Wars.

The Union Station stairway sequence in The Untouchables, which of course pays homage to the stairs sequence in Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin.

The botched bank robbery getaway sequence in Heat. I stopped breathing for 10 minutes.

Hi! I just want to ask you guys, that if you're going to post climactic scenes or endings, please warn users of possible spoilers. We don't want to get sued by movie production companies by giving away the endings to their movies now do we?

Which begs the question: is there anyone on the face of the planet over the age of 20 who has not seen or at least heard of Star Wars?

My ex-girlfriend hasn't watched Star Wars (she's 22). By the time I discovered this, it was too late, we'd broken up already!

Here's a great film moment: acting and cinematography working perfectly together.

Carlito's Way from the last chase scene right down to the end of the final song "You Are So Beautiful". BRILLIANT!

here's a few I can think of right now... watch out for spoilers:

Blair Witch Project the famous scene where Heather(?) has her camcorder pointed towards her, saying sorry to everyone. And then her eyes look to the side and she whispers "What's that?" Creepy crap.

Every scene in Empire Strikes Back. I can't choose one.

Thing is, you're not sure if the scenes I like are great for what they are, or because of the support of the movie they're in...

I seldom leave a movie theater with a big lump on my throat but when I saw The Sixth Sense, I just can't help but be moved by the scene where Cole (Haley Joel Osment) finally "communicated" with his mother (Toni Collette) in the car, telling her of how her grandmother watched her mother danced. It's not much about the scene or the dialogue but more of the way Toni Collette's expression slowly changes from trying not to breakdown ... until she did. And yes, I cried with her.

Other great movie scenes in random order :

1. The first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan
2. The Russian roullette scenes in The Deer Hunter
3. Bonnie and Clyde's death scene
4. The secret revealed in The Crying Game
5. Merryl Streep giving up her son to Dustin Hoffman in Kramer Vs Kramer
6. Mary's gel in There's Something About Mary
7. "You talkin' to me ?" in Taxi Driver
8. Discovering Norman Bates and the killer in the original Psycho
9. Linda Blair's head making a 360-degree turn in The Exorcist
10. The opening sequence in The Lion King

I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I can think of right now. They are forever planted in my brain.

The ff aren't exactly critically acclaimed, but they're some scenes I have fun watching over and over again (sorry if i can't remember the exact chapter numbers on some of them)

From Bad Boys:
Chap 21 Lobby Shoot Out - the soundtrack really went well with the scene and one of those times when slow mo shots were used quite well in a movie
Chap 27 Hi Speed Chase - It's pretty hard to make car chase sequences that you'll remember long after the movie. This one's on the top of my list of movie car chases
There's another scene with Joe Pantoliano in the precinct's basketball gym - I never get tired of hearing his lines!

From The 13th Warrior:
The scene where they were preparing for the final battle, with the norsemen reciting their prayer, it really draws you in, makes you feel like joining in the melee!
The scene where Ahmed suddenly talks to the norsemen in their language. Wouldn't it be cool if you could learn a language that way?

From The Fifth Element:
Chap 23 Korben's Room - this movie really made use of brilliant colors and this scene shows it

From Galaxy Quest:
The scene where Tim Allen is first brought back to earth, the one where the frame zooms out from the pupil of his eye - really shows the ability of the DVD format in showing detail

Come to think of it, if you wanted to show off your TV for sharpness, clarity, or color (especially for those of you out there with Sony Wegas) which movie scenes would you play? (should this be a new thread or can it be included here?)

I also remember vividly the ending of Thelma and Louise. I simply thought that was great and have since long for a friendship like that. Not that we're gonna shoot someone and drive to Mexico thru Texas ... but the thought of a friend throwing away everything is kinda ... well... sweet.

Yaiks! I thought people would post chapter numbers or timestamps of the movie in their DVDs, so others could check out immediately what he/she was raving about through scene access.

But since this has gone on, what the heck.

Another favorite: In X-Men, somewhere in Chapter 6, where Wolverine shows off his claws for the first time.

Well whaddaya expect if you tell people to post "great scenes from their favorite movies"? I've been watching movies a hell of a lot longer than I've been collecting DVDs, sonny!

Besides , do you honestly expect me to start slotting in my DVDs to note down chapter and/or time code of my favorite scenes? I'm way too lazy for that!

Gladiator :

When Maximus came face to face with that @#$%^& Emperor. Oh my, that scene is so intense, you can feel Russel's "pangigigil". Coupled with an equally intense dialogue -

"... Father to a murdered son... Husband to a murdered wife... and I will have my revenge... this life or the next..."

".... maximus... maximus... the merciful" (hehehe.. hindi na kasama 'to).

Citizen Kane - Kane, while trashing his room, suddenly mellows down when he sees the snow globe.

The Hustler - The epic duels between Fast Eddie Felson and Minnesota Fats.

Terminator 2 JD - The final dark highway scene.

You've Got Mail - Joe Fox wittingly developing his real-life and cyber relationship with Kathleen prior to the final scene.

Magnolia - "...And it's not... going to stop... so just... give up!"

Favorite scenes:

1) The whole Superman rescues Lois from falling helicopter... Yung part pa lng na magpapalit sya from Clark Kent to Superman <insert Superman theme here> sobrang ok na...

2) Matrix lobby gunfight scene and...

3) also the I know kung-fu, Neo vs Morpheus fight... it was just so cool!!!

4) In Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz the Movie, where Heero retireves and takes conrol of Wing Zero (custom) for one last battle... It was just so "ma-porma" and the background music that plays behind it (Last Impression) is just awesome.

5) Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, the first time D and Meier Link first meet... that fight atop the carraige (while short) was just animated pretty well.

6) Blade, the first time Blade shows up in a night club full of vampires and takes out a lot of them...

4. The ending of West Side Story, where Maria goes aboslutely nuts!
