Burn Notice
« on: Jul 06, 2007 at 12:13 PM »
I got intrigued by the relatively heavy advertising this new series is getting so I checked it out. I have to say that I was entertained. It's edgy but very, very funny. Jeffrey Donovan seems perfect for the role. Bruce Campbell as a "sidekick" was perfectly cast and Gabrielle Anwar, even though she looked old, still looks hot. Hopefully this breaks my bad luck with TV series that gets cancelled prematurely.

Me too dude. I found the pilot episode entertaining. Plus any show with Bruce Campbell is a must watch for me. It's on the USA network which I think is a good thing. They don't quickly cancel shows.

Don't you just love the voice overs? it's a cool narrative device to use in order to "teach" about espionage tactics and "mcgyverisms".

Oddly enough, the feel of this show reminds me of another excellent USA series, Psych with James Roday and Dule Hill. Maybe it's the humor? Whatever it is, I have a good feeling about Burn Notice and am keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts a full season.

Mcgyver used voiceovers too, right? Overall, I like the way they've adapted the better qualities of that show into this one.

And I agree with dobler. Heck if 4400 can get renewed after that train wreck of a 3rd season, the USA people have my vote as the most viewer friendly network today.

That's right! Totally forgot about that. I just finished watching Episode 2 and the script's still tight and funny. Loved Anwar's quip about having a new accent. This is one of those series that really makes me laugh out loud because of the witty banter. I'm in this for the long haul.

The concept - ex-CIA dude takes on odd civvy jobs using his spook skills - remidns me of The Equalizer.

Just had a marathon of the last three episodes. Thanks for the heads up, Indie. This was a worthy replacement now that Traveler is about to wrap up. I never liked any of the USA series and this is starting to be the first one I dug.

It had a little bit of that Grosse Pointe Blank vibe for me.  Who is this Jeffrey Donovan? ;D

I'm getting more and more addicted to this series. Jeffrey Donovan really looked familiar when I saw him so I went to IMDB. I was quite surprised that his only other previous work that I've seen was the Blair Witch Project sequel. I hated that movie but it was quite fascinating to discover that even with one movie I have managed to remember him. Weird.

He also played Vance in Hitch, the guy who had a one night stand with Eva's best friend. Oh and Gabrielle Anwar while a bit older is still hot.  ;D

Same here pre. Although she looked surprisingly old during the first two episodes, for some reason she's looking fresher and fresher every week. I never even noticed that she was that sultry when she was at the height of her popularity in the mid 90's. Rawwr!!

Good news nga yan pre. By the way, check out the Burn Notice page at the USA Network site. Nakakatawa yung mga Ask a Spy mini videos nila. I loved the advice on how to get promoted, hehe.

I am hoping that Lucy Lawless comes back (I don't know how they'll do it though) and becomes a recurring character--the foil to Mike Westen.

Yup, she did. But I'm hoping they follow the McGyver template here and make Lucy's character similar to Murdoc's, McGyver arch nemesis.

Just finished watching the premier episode of Season Two. The series hasn't missed a beat, it's still as good as ever. Only gripe is that after the cliffhanger finale last season, the "sort of" resolution was not too satisfying for me.

Oo pre. The show has been better this season so far. Everything from the spot on voice over, Gabrielle Anwar's legs and Mr. Campbell's chin... Then there's Tricia Helfer. Hehe...

I wasn't able to catch the very first episode of this show so I refused to watch the succeeding shows. What's also detrimental in my viewing is our Channel 9's bad reception. But hey, any movies or tv shows with Bruce "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell in it is worth watching for me. ;) Most likely will catch this on video.

My interest was piqued by indie boy's initial post on this topic so I checked out this series. I find it entertaining and indeed it is a cross between McGyver and the Equalizer. I watch one episode each evening. Buti na lang mabilis yung internet sa office, I almost done getting the latest episodes.

How come the latest episode had text in the corner saying:

Now
Burn Notice
Season Finale

Is it? TV.com lists at least 5 more episodes.
