hi all,

would you say that this particular model would be future proof, for the next 2-4 years? take into account RP setting, ha?

i was thingkin of getting one of those commercial/industrial plasma models (which, from what i've read here are only 480p capable), as these models are less expensive. but i figure, by next year, blu ray and/or HD would have won the HD wars, and HD players will be less expensive and prevalent in the market and i would be left with a non-HD model. so better this model?

congrats kt on your purchase!!! from the other threads here at Pdvd others suggest that mga 100 hrs break in time, others naman did 150 hours. I bought mine (although diff brand) last June pa and i have not finished the break in  ;) ;) mostly during weekend lang kasi ko nagagamit  ;D some says naman na no need to break in kasi these plasmas are based on new technology so wala ng masyado burn in problems. Try to adjust the setting sa lowest possible. Mine puro naka 0 yung brightness etc. Pero to be honest ang linaw pa din  ;) Try to avoid also the 2.35 aspect ratio not unless yung dvd player mo has a screen fit mode. Yung Pio 600 zoom mode so i use my Samsung HD841 most of the time. hope this helps  ;)

Congrats, sir kt!

pano po ba proper break in nito?

I recommend tuning into a TV station and zooming in at maximum to crop the station logo from the picture, then leaving the TV on 10 hours a day for 10 days.

I hope my old post helps:  http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=63765.msg667986#msg667986

tnx vtec3! is there a feature in the pv70 where we can access the service mode to view the hrs used like in other units? so estimation nalng sa break in hrs? parang sbrang dark kasi if baba ng settings eh. so baba ko nalng sa half yung lahat? there is a zoom view naman sa tv pero sbrang ma crop yung scenes. tnx!

Turning down settings as low as possible would not be necessary.  During the break-in period, setting contrast and brightness to midpoint or lower would be sufficient.

how do u know if the unit is properly broken in?

Unfortunately, there's no way to know if the unit has been properly broken-in.  Just follow Panasonic's plasma FAQ break-in advice:

4. What is the "break-in" period and what should I do during the break-in period to minimize any risk of image retention?

When your plasma TV is initially installed, the first 100 hours of use is known as the "break-in period." During this time, to minimize any risk of image retention, you should:

1. Make sure the plasma TV is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen. The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode.

2. Turn down the Picture setting (in the Picture menu) to +0.

3. Briefly engage the 4:3 mode and confirm the side bars are set to "Mid", or "Bright". This can be adjusted in the Set Up menu.

4. Always return the display mode that fills the screen (such as Just, Zoom, Full, or H-FILL).

5. Try not to view channels with stationary backgrounds or logos for extended periods of time.

6. Avoid extended display of static images (video games, computer images, DVD title screens, etc.).

From http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PlasmaFAQ?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&langId=-1&catGroupId=24973

Yes, I'm always on power saver mode.  Turning on the power saver mode does not degrade picture quality.

just installed my unit and paired it with a pioneer dvd w/hdmi. I upscaled the image to 720p and picture quality is good. I had to put the picture mode in cinema since the dynamic mode seems to be too red for my taste.

as expected, the picture quality when warching cable is grainy.

i need to spend more time with the tv in order to give a better and more accurate review.

congrats rafmac on your new flat panel! there are channels clearer than others in my experience, most likely depends on the signal coming from the cable company  ;)

thanks vtec 3. viewed some chanels and others seem better off. also made some fine tuning adjustments and there were some improvements and i reallly did not have time to manually adjust all as of yet. is it better to have dream installed?

after watching regular dvd's next project would be to get a high def player and will probably get it next month. gastos talaga hehehehe

by the way, i experienced a problem, I hooked up my pinoeer dvd to the panny using a hdmi cord, when I did not turn on my HT, there was no sound coming out of the tv. How to remedy?

congrats on your new set sir! wat pioneer player are u using? have you tried changing the color temp on dynamic mode? the standard mode seems a bit dull for me.

naku gastos talaga yan  ;D when you say high def player are you getting the Toshiba HD Player or just an upconverting 1080p player. If ever 1080p upconverting I suggest you audition the Pio 600. Si kt kabibili din lang niyan  ;)

Not sure how to remedy, what I know kasi is if you connect your HDMI dvd player to your Pana there will still be sound, so you have to lower the volume of the Pana.  I am sure yung mga gurus dito sa forum will be able to help you with your concern  ;)

thanks. was able to solve the problem, naka set to DTS yung output kaya there was no sound na lumalabas.

as for the high def player, i have already a pioneer unit that can upscale to 1080p and i cant choose between a HD-DVD or a Blu-Ray player. Or even maybe a PS3. Gastos talaga hehehehe.... already invested a lot (Onkyo HT system, TV cabinet, the plasma and soon a high def player).

kt, just looking at my checkbook made me realize how much i spent already. bilis ng pera... well worth it naman

for me medyo affordable na, i have a series of trips abroad during the ber months and I plan to buy either blu-ray or hd-dvd during one of my trips. sa US kasi less than $300 na ang HD-DVD and sa $450 for Blu-Ray. Any idea if it is also cheaper in Singapore?

nabasa mo yun current issue ng HWM?

it says that all units kailangan daw ng further color calibration to be true? totoo kaya ito?

how much ba ang 50pv70? sa china 19k yuan, so roughly 120k

for those using an upscaling dvd with the pv70, what resolution are you using or what is the most optimal resolution setting would ou recommend?
