I haven't tested HD-870 but i have HD-860 playing for a year now. So far so good. It does a good job with its DVD upscaling capabilities. But if you're going to have this player upscaled a flick into a 32" or smaller display, You might not see that much difference as expected compared to an ordinary DVD player, Except... for much vivid colors and crispier details ( or it's just me  ;D ).

was thinking about this as well para bagay sa samsung lcd :)

the samsung is cheaper pa as it already has an hdmi cable included...although i opted to get the dv400 yesterday as it had the usb input up front. no more burning of downloaded divx videos :)

good choice on the dv400. upscales to 1080p for future display upgrade, and if your current tv panel is good at upscaling, the 400 can output native 480i too, which is lacking in the hd870.

in fairness, the hd870 looks good on paper too. 14-bit 108mhz video, s-video out in addition to hdmi and component, plus EZ View... and 110db s/n 100db dynamic range on audio, with both coax and optical out.

gusto ko nga sana black na dvd player that upconverts to 720p para bagay na bagay sa samsung 32r81.
pero wala ako mahanap na review about this player so wala akong idea regarding its PQ, upconversion, divx/avi playback, etc..
i bought pio dv600 na lang kahit na silver lang ang available color, pero sure naman na maganda ang performance nya.

Take the samsung 1080p7 instead which looks the same but can do 1080p already. Should be a few price difference only and some say got better performance.

One thing I don't like in this player is it does not show the track no. of the cd you're playing on the dvd display, only the time info. you have to open your t.v. to view track listings. Because of this i just bought a separate cd player :) I havent compared with other upscaling dvd player but so far satisfied with the picture quality on samsung 32r81

So around 5.5kphp which is almost same price here in Singapore. May free HDMI na rin yung set dito.  Multi-code na ba agad yung galing US or u have to remote hack it?

Price per performance-wise, oks talaga ito. Lalu na cguro pag upscale to 1080p. So far I can do 720p/1080i only due to my lcd & projector capacity.  No need to tweak the settings gaya nung mga ibang branded upscaling players, para sa akin oks na yung default setting nya.
