SAAN NAGTATAGO SI HAPPINESS (Cinemalaya 2006 entry)
« on: Feb 07, 2007 at 07:55 PM »
I loved this movie! Underrated on last year's Cinemalaya. Its a dramedy with a great ensemble cast.

I was seated during the screening last year with the husband and wife team of Mark & Lee Meily enjoying and applauding also before the final credits rolled. I hope it will have a theatrical run.

I liked ICU Bed # 7 so I wanted to see this one, too.  But I didn't, lol.  Perhaps one day on VCD or DVD.

SM Digital Cinemas. At least accessible to more people.

According to Andy Bais, the star of the film, they've re-done the opening credits, and re-edited the film plus added some footage.

I'm friends with one of the producers and here's the information she gave me:

Showing March 7-13 at the following SM cinemas: SM Cebu, Clark, Davao, Fairview, Mall of Asia, Manila, North Edsa, Pampanga, San Lazaro, Southmall, Sta.Mesa, Megamall

Yehey Article:

From the same team that brought you “ICU Bed #7,” winner of Don Carlos Palanca for Literature 2003, Best Direction and Best Performance by an Actor in the 1st Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, comes another heartwarming story that will define the true meaning of happiness amidst the trials and hardship in life.

“Saan Nagtatago Si Happiness?” (Where is Happiness?), is a heartwarming adventure of an ice cream vendor (Andy Bais) in search of his mother (Caridad Sanchez). A semi-musical dramedy that will uplift the spirits of every Pinoy in troubled times.

Finding happiness isn’t part of Tikyo’s everyday plan. For him, nothing is as simple as selling sorbetes, his source of living. Everything’s perfectly fine until his mother, whom he believed for so long was dead, is still alive. Eager to meet his elusive happiness, Tikyo will do everything to be with her mother. Every effort, he does with the help of his best buddy, Nene (Mica Torre), a child wonder from the tenement.

His world will be lost in confusion when he meets the girl of his dreams, Sarah (Darling Lavinia). Tikyo is now torn between finding his mother and pursuing the young woman’s heart. He believes that true happiness will come to him if he’ll be successful in winning the two women of his life. Tikyo must find his way to happiness, lead other people to it and redefine its true meaning.

A small wonderful film! Be ready with your hanky before you see the finale, a must for this movie. Its been more than a decade since I saw Nanette Inventor singing on the big screen again after her gig as the rocking nun in Mike de Leon's KAKABAKABA KA BA.

This was quite entertaining, a respite from the heavy stuff that was screened last year.

This film never fails to put a smile on anyone's face.  I would entice people to do see it again at the CCP Cinemalaya re-run.  Simple, funny and sincere. Very Pinoy!  Andy and Mica are a great tandem :)
