Pics:

As can be seen, rated PG, although in my view, still not appropriate for anyone less than 18 with or without parental guidance.

As with Season 1, it's wooden box set with cardboard slipcase, in digipack with 2-page flyer. The discs are kind of hard to remove, like that of the Superman tin set...

Yup I hope so too. Wasn't able to get my order as well so I've been bugging .biz and Warner to expedite the stocks. Turns out Rome S1 was actually one of the online store's bestsellers last year.

Guys, I did a side-by-side comparison of the Rome Season 2 R1 and R3.

One glaring difference was apparent: The running time of the R1 is listed as "Approx. 600 mins." For the R3, it says "Approx: 572 mins."

I don't know if that's a misprint, or if the printed R3 running time was erroneously based on the R2 (PAL) running time, or what. I hope that's all it is, and that there are no edits on the R3 version.  :-\

Perhaps Warner can investigate this for us?

Hmm..that's odd. Both R1 & R3 contents should be the same unless the R3 edition is being "butchered"  :-[ Based on the back cover, any features have been left out as compared to R1 features? Hopefully it's an error lang.

Exactly the same features; in fact, even the UPC under the bar code is IDENTICAL, so the contents should be the same.

R2 is also 572 minutes.

It could be the 600 minutes is based on 60 minutes x 10 episodes but Barnes and Noble list it also as 10 hours.  Or that credits is cut from the running time.  Still haven't watched my copy, so don't know...

I think if ever there is difference it would be result of censorship, but highly unlikely since the R2 is classified as '18' and European censors are often lax on $ex (but not violence).

Season 2: Checked the images on Amazon  (as posted by someone from Russia!).

The R1 has a separate flyer that contains writeups on Rome.  This is not in the R3 version.

The R3 flyer is composed of the episodes list, on R1 the episode list is printed on the digipack cases.

Whoa 666 mins vs 720 mins..that's a total 54 min difference (almost 1 hour) ???

But from the scans provided by boredfilmmaker all contents are indeed the same..

Maybe some violence scenes have been scaled down? ;D

techdude is probably right. The first season was 12 episodes, so the R1 just multiplied 60 mins. x 12 to come up with 720 minutes without looking at the actual running times of the individual episodes. I watched American HBO broadcasts of Rome S1, and nothing was missing on the corresponding episodes on my R3 disc.

So I suppose the episodes are all intact for season 2, as well.

Doing the math on the R1 Season 1 episodes:  The 723 minutes total is only if if add in the featurettes.  The main features is 622 minutes. R2 Season 1, main features is 595 minutes long, which is around that 4% speedup rate of PAL systems.

I'm predicting that a complete series collector's set will be released in the future (like Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, etc.).

I think there's such a set in R2.  With R1, Amazon just bundled both and slapped a price that is like $50 higher than when they are bought individually.
