as usual fun filled afternoon again, daming tao, maraming salamat sir mark for being the ever generous host. nice to see new faces too.

its hard to describe how the new set up sound like but one thing that caught my attention really, the volume level we are listening too is at -2db already and thats way way too loud yet everything reaches my ears soflty, not sure on the more appropriate term but this is the best exmaple i could think off wherein brute power and massive look is perfectly blended with finnese,

the surround effect, Audyssey DSX is to die for,

and oh sir mark, what's the title of the BD with Lea Salonga?

Thanks sir Mark for again inviting me to your theater.

The Focal Utopia's are HUGE!!!  :o :o
They sound so real. It is a pleasure to listen to for both music and movies.  :)

I do not if it's just me but I felt like the LFE in The Dark Knight was panning.  :o

I've been to your HT several times na and I think this is quite possibly the best upgrade you've made.  ;D

With regard to the loud volume level, I think there are 2 aspects:
1) When sound is undistorted, you can play at higher volumes and it will still be pleasant to the ears.
2) There were about 25 people in the room and each one (especially the fat ones  ;D ) absorbs sound so you need to play at a louder level to achieve the same perceived volume.

The "listener envelopment" effect created by Audyssey DSX is pretty incredible - seamless, you are in the movie. This is enhanced by the all-Focal setup which ensures that all speakers are timbre-matched and are of high quality.
No room acoustic treatment is like running a Ferrari on ice.

Hi Juancho! Yes, the Focal Maestro Utopias are really huge (Blackie will post some pics of the speakers with vtec3 beside them) but more important, the sound quality is incredibly detailed and accurate.

I think I have substantially achieved what I have been long striving for -- a reference system for both music and movies. The theory is pretty simple - if you have a good system for music and which is not difficult to drive, it should also be good for movies. One incredible thing about the Focals is that even those relatively small amps of JojoD could adequately drive the huge Utopia speakers. That shows you how efficient the speakers are. You couldn't do that with my old PSB Stratus Goldi speakers because they are so hard to drive. You would fry the amps (which I did).

With regard to the "panning of LFE", I think those are the harmonics of the deep bass which are being panned among the speakers. When we watched the movie clips, we set the xovers of all speakers to 80 Hz, which meant that the subs were playing all the low and mid-bass so it would have been impossible to pan that. However, those bass sounds have harmonics at higher frequencies and these are played by the other speakers - that's what you were probably hearing. Our ears are fooled into thinking that the deep bass is coming from where the harmonics are being played.
No room acoustic treatment is like running a Ferrari on ice.

Maganda talaga tunog ng hi-end TT with Jojo D's monoblocks and preamp but rather than describe it, I really prefer that people listen to it na lang.

All photos courtesy of the master --- Iiinas!

sayang at hindi ko na nadinig itong high end na TT na ito, had to go early and meet someone back sa Commonwealth. i am sure maganda tunog nito with master Jojo monoblocks. hindi ko nga mahipo man lang itong TT na ito dahil mabaka magasgas eh maibayad ko pa kotse ko  ;D

brader tama ka diyan, ganda ng tunog. i was one of the early ones who arrived. and Sir Blackie took a picture of me standing beside the Focal and after which I commented to Sir Mark, aba I was expecting na masakit sa tenga yung tweeter pero hindi smooth pa din ang highs  :o considering na the tweeter is almost the same ear level ko standing  ;)
