TRIBU by Jim Libiran
« on: Jul 29, 2007 at 10:40 PM »
CINEMALAYA Best Film for 2007! Made by our very own diamond. Small world, Jim. The victory party is now being held in a resto outside CCP.

The most honest-to-goodness speech came from one of the actors in this film while bagging the best actor award: "nagpunta lang ho kami dito para makikain"!  ;D

All pinoydvd members will be given free tickets for the preem next month on Indie Sine. Just look for diamond.  :D

A well deserved win indeed! Was in my top 3 and its victory came as no surprise. Kudos to Jim Libiran and the rest of the cast and crew.  ;)

Yeah, congratulations to diamond and everyone else involved in the production.

I have my problems with it, but I admire the ambition and the scope (could've pushed the envelope more, I think). It's one of the three films in the festival competition worth watching.

When I congratulated Jim last night, I introduced myself as keating from pinoydvd, he replied by saying I'm diamond. Small world indeed! I have no regrets about this film from its inflicting violence of the juvenile delinquency down to the slums in Tondo.

Laurice Guillen, Robbie Tan and the other biggies from Cinemalaya approached him at once when he ate from the buffet. Marketing the film now overseas was his main target. Jade Castro, sir Ed Cabagnot and the rest joined him for the victory party last night.

Jim was actually looking for more members from the forum who troop to the CCP to catch Cinemalaya but I told him we are only four among the members who went to the fest.

One thing I like about Cinemalaya, either the filmmaker and the cast is present in every screening of their film.

;D Finally saw this one. By coincidence, my seat mate was Battousai. Too bad Keating and company missed it. TICKETS WERE SOLD OUT!!

KUDOS TO JIM LIBIRAN aka DIAMOND!!! Asteeg ang movie! Really liked it!

I had questions about this and that and good thing Jim was there to clarify things up for me. And he was kind and sport enough to answer some audience's critiques and comments.

To Jim, keep doing what your heart and mind believe is right. You will never have the power to make everyone happy. But you can make them rise to their feet and say "Siyeet ibang klase!!!!"

As to my appearance in your next film, we all know it was a joke LOL!!

So, I was sitting inside Cinema 6 of Gateway, waiting for Tribu to start when a good-looking guy said "Battousai?!". It was Blitz! I mean, what were the chances? I bought my ticket last Sunday and, well, I forgot to ask when he bought his (sold out na kasi yung Tribu nung nakita ko sa monitor ng Gateway Cineplex). Napahinto tuloy ako sa paglaro ng strip poker on my cell phone. LOL

I liked the way the movie showed us the ins and outs of Tondo (only been there once) and how it depicts the gangstas and the life of people living there. I really enjoyed the dalogue coz it was spot on and brutal, much like what I hear from the streets.

Bravo, Jim! Can't wait to see kung may director's cut ito. ;)

Sayang at walang question and answer after the movie, pero buti na lang at andun si Jim sa labas at nakapag-kwentuhan pa kaming  tatlo.

I was planning to see it for the 2nd time around last night, X44 was first time to see it but we ran out of tickets! Oggs have to catch PERSEPOLIS.

Its good that you were able to get a seat, blitz. Too bad only one screening. TRIBU is much much better than FOSTER CHILD.

Congrats to Diamond! I've been hearing great things about Tribu. Manong Conrad de Quiros wrote a really good piece on the film!

To the PDVD guys who were able to watch, I envy you. I haven't been able to watch a single movie I was planning on watching in Cinemanila. The realities of work reared its ugly head again. Been too busy to really go. Kung naging june or july lang sana ang cinemanila this year I could've found the time.

I guess, I'll just wait for a possible DVD release. :)

Maraming maraming salamat po sa suporta! Battousai, Blitz, blade, indie boi, keating, oggsmogs, RMN, dexterc!

Tribu will be shown for two weeks at Robinson's digital cinemas starting August 29. Baka gusto nyong mag-EB hehehehe. Lalo na yung mga PinoyDVDers na nananakit na ang likod kakapanood ng DVD sa kanilang lazyboys hahahaha.

After this two-week run, Tribu will tour the country (going underground), city to city, university to university.

Salamat po sa suporta.

PS: blitz, seryoso ako sa alok ko...

Yun! Hehe.

UPDATES on the film TRIBU
(Salamat sa inyong lahat!)

1. Buhay pa ang TRIBU -- may mga paa at naglalakad pa... katatapos lang ng screenings sa Cebu City (where it gained new promoters among church and NGO workers who plan to have it shown sa street gangs and rugby kids ng Cebu...).

2. Other screening schedules (courtesy of Active Vista Film Festival by Dakila)

August 17, 2010 - Aquinas University, Legaspi City (9:00 am to 11:00 am)

August 19, 2010 - Ateneo de Naga (2:00pm)

August 27, 2010 - De La Salle University - Lipa City, Batangas (3:00 pm)

September 1, 2010 - Ateneo de Davao, Davao City

September 14, 2010 - University of Baguio, Baguio City (10:00am)

September 22, 2010 - Mindanao State University, General Santos City (10:00 am)

September 27, 2010 - Western Mindanao State University, Zamboanga City (10:00 am)

*** may iba pang universities sa Metro Manila na humihingi ng sked to screen the film... I'll announce it pag sure na...

Hmmmm....)

4. Tribu has an accompanying Original Sound Track. Two versions, in fact, one is the original Tondo recordings used in the film. The second is a re-mixed euro trip hop electronica version.
Tribu filmmaker and producer (Jim Libiran, a loyal PinoyDVD veteran), is looking for partner/investors that can help him publish and distribute the soundtrack.

5. Likewise, Libiran is also looking for investor/partner who can help him publish and distribute the TRIBU GRAPHIC NOVEL (illustrated by Djinn Tallada).
http://skrewerks.multiply.com/photos/album/3/TRIBU_COMIKS

6. Tribu has a Facebook page. You may want to visit it:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tribu/112654685165?v=wall&ref=ts

7. The gang leaders / actors in the film are still intact and are now being supported by German and French gangsta/rappers (courtesy of Alliance Francaise and Goethe Institute)...

8. The director of Tribu remains loyal to PinoyDVD. (EB! EB!)

Salamat po!

I'M AWAITING a clean, razor sharp copy of this small film. Its taking so long, its the same case with the RILES film of Ditsi Carolino and her Minsan Lang Sila Bata (the latter available only on infernal VHS - takot siguro ang PCIJ na ma-pirate). I'm also on the lookout for that Fil-Am girl director's second film after IMELDA, the one about Filipino teachers recruited to work on US schools, their travails. Why not PDVD sponsor TRIBU's DVD/Blu Ray remastered release, it may become a surefire hotcake because we're already a captive audience & collectors. Kaysa nagtitinda lang ang site ng mga DVD ng Warner at Magnavisions (multi-national capitalists), why not make and sold our own?
