should i buy this -> PS51E550 (plasma) P59,500

instead of 46eh5300 (led) P56,500 or 46ES6600 (led) P98,000?

PS51E550 appears to have all the features that 46ES6600 have plus more. With the huge price difference, 56,500 vs 98k, is it safe to say that it will probably take years (at least a decade) before you get back the savings from the lower power consumption of LED vs Plasma?

Consumers should not put the power consumption as their primary concern. Technology advances have practically driven down the energy use of new flatscreen TVs that even considering of buying a lesser wattage TV won't matter so much to their monthly electric bill.

Many are misled that plasma consumes much electricity than LCD or LED. Though the Samsung 51E550 has the 350 watts, on the average it consumes merely 175 to 190watts. How does this happen? Well, plasma power consumption varies greatly with picture content, with bright scenes drawing significantly more power than darker ones. When screens are set to "shop" mode by default, it draws at least twice the power of a "home" setting of less extreme brightness. Hence, the typical power consumption of 350 watts for 50" screen is merely consuming in half when set to cinema mode at home.

A 52" LED consumes around 160 watts. The 51E550 plasma is just about 10% higher in power consumption. Looking at the figures, the added power consumption for this plasma is equivalent to a 40watts light ball. Will this matter to your electric bill? It's your call. An enthusiast won't matter for a few peso savings if it will only deprive his craving for the best pleasure and viewing experience.

The Trumotion 120Hz features reduces motion blur in action scenes and judder in scenes with slow panning. However, it can introduce a problem that we call the "soap opera effect" where it makes movie sets look cheap and can make film look like video.

The new LG TV line-up Trumotion motion feature is only available in the 42" 3D TV. There's no 32" Trumotion TV.

Instead of Trumotion, we highly recommend you consider the Samsung Clear Motion Response CMR. The CMR reduces motion blur without creating 'artificial' motion effect or "soap opera effect".

You may want to consider the new Samsung 32" LED 32EH5000 with 120Hz CMR (for NTSC TV) at P22K. BTW, it's a great TV because of another reason--it's the full array LED, a new tech that improves color and uniformed black.
