The first thing that you notice when you look at A-audio’s David is its unique hexagonal shape.
This got me curious about the innards of the speaker as it weighs at a hefty 20 pounds.
More important than aesthetics, does it sound good?
After all, it is named after the great king of Israel, David who toppled Goliath, David who is attributed to 73 of 150 chapters of the book of Psalms, David who composed songs of praise & worship.
David is a tall name. Does the speaker live up to its name?
YES.
I had this speaker for 3 months now and I am very familiar with its sound, I love it!!
VoiceNat King Cole “The Very Thought of You” – Nat Cole’s voice through the David was open and warm and actually sounded very “thoughtful”. I welcomed Nat’s fatherly voice in my listening area with delight.
Basia “Time & Tide” – Powerful, detailed, satisfyingly deep lows, Basia’s voice came out bursting without any harshness. I never heard Time & Tide as good as the David sang it.
Classical Music"Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" & "Dance of the Reed Pipes" – I wrote in my Genesis review that it takes a really special kind of speaker to elevate classical music to a whole different level. David is that speaker.
The notes were presented sublimely, it sounded very flowy and smooth. I couldn’t criticize the sound because it was just sooo good.
R&BCraig David's "Rendezvous" & "7 Days" was great as usual, I personally really love the production of his tunes. Craig’s songs was even better through the David. It sounded fluid and natural. And yes, I did sing along.
Dance & PopBlack Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow" – Now this is what I’m talking about, bass like you just don’t care.
The David packs a huge punch!!! Every Boom Boom Boom was powerful but handled like a pro as the voices of the Black Eyed Peas and electro sounds were still distinct and dynamic and not drowned by the powerful bass.
Lady Gaga “Just Dance” – Fun and dynamic, the energy of Lady Gaga was preserved by the David while keeping it from becoming overzealous.
RockBeatles “Come Together” – Wonderful!! Every drum distinct, every note skillfully played. When I had a few friends over, this track made them come together and actively listen to the David.
Movies & GamesDavid is being marketed as an audio speaker and rightly so. Movies and games for me just didn’t have the impact it should. Maybe this is because of the warmth of David which doesn’t really hand itself well for movies & games.
ConclusionThe speaker is named after King David and I fully and wholeheartedly agree.
Music produced by this speaker just sounds so kingly. Every song I played was perfect for my ears.
I can describe the sound of this speaker as incredibly warm but not “ngo ngo” it has detail but it is not bright. The lows are smooth and satisfying.
At 15k this speaker is truly the David that can match 50k Goliaths
For music, David is my favorite among all of A-audio’s lineup.
