After 3 years on my DVD shelves, I was able to watch (sort of) Dr. Zhivago. Good thing, the disc played flawlessly especially on those Chapters mentioned in other topics that suffered from DVD rot/pixellation.

The first thing I do to new shrink wrapped DVDs coming home from a DVD shopping is to open them and see their conditions in case I need to have one returned/exchanged. After opening, I don't necessarily watch the entire film, unless it's a title I'm aching to watch, I just browse through chapters to see if there's freezing. Then I'll watch when I feel like it, often taking weeks or months after I bought them.
