Well sir, dumadating din kasi sa isang athlete ang point na he/she has enough of this kind of life,
sinasawaan din sila sa daily routine nila, practice and training, hinahanap ang normal life na wala sa kanila.
Others take that kind of opportunity to recuperate their war injuries, then after a looong lay off, hinahanap naman ng katawan ang competition, ang most common complaint lang naman ng mga world class athletes ay ang everyday training and practice, walang ipinag-iba yan sa weekend warriors sir, dumadating ang point na sinasawaan sa games, and a loong rest is needed, then bumabalik naman ulit ang enthusiasm sa paglalaro...

Its going to be a treat to see kung ano ang sinasabi ni Henin na ipinagbago ng serve nya, and of course the best backhand in the business...

yes i understand that point, but some athletes dont know what retirement means. They cant distiguish a layoff from retirement. Proper athletes will retire and not come back like Borg or Bobby Fischer. Henin just needed a short break from the game not retire. For me embarrassing  yung youll say youll retire then come back after a year.

Well, we could always say that Michael Jordan was a different story but he did came out of retirement twice. An in both comeback situations, most of the basketball fans appreciated his decision. Except, of course, the Jazz & Sonics fans.

Whatever the reason for retirement - lack of motivation, giving into the pressure of being at the top, change of priorities, recovering from injury, etc. - a comeback bid by a top athlete will always be anticipated & supported by most sports fans.

I do like the idea of sharing part of their earnings. After all, they are back for the the love of the game, right? ;)

Watching the Australian Open,
Henin's back on tour again, and her Immaculate backhand... Simply beautiful...

Anyone catch that black plaster inside her left thigh..? What's it for...?

abc,

just guessing ... could be something to support or soothe muscles. read in lance armstong's book that they apply tape when something doesn't feel well in their muscles. the color of the tape they used then was pink.

Speaking of Tennis.  Does anyone here have HD SkyCable subscription?  They say Sky is broadcasting the French Open in HD.  Any feedback on this?

I guess I have to jump in without any feedback as to whether it's worth it or not.  I searched the internet and nobody said anything about the SkyCable broadcast of the French Open in HD good or bad so I gambled on getting a subscription for this HD broadcast from Sky and purchased the Viera 42S10S.

All I can say is Wow :o

It's so vivid that it's almost as if you are in Roland Garros  :)

Way to go Rafa!!!!!!!!!!

Kung hindi sana naging "maputik" yung laban ni Federer kay Soderling, Federer would have had better chances of extending Nadal to 4 sets on clay.   ;D

Rafa's gradual shift from "passive" wall to a more offensive play style is very impressive.  He's very young and would have a lot of chances to break Borg's record in the French Open as long as he stays healthy.

But his style of biting banana (gingerly left and right), then folding the peel very carefully and nicely is still too f#ckin gay.   ;D   Wife and daughter love to watch his peculiar ceremonies.   ;D

That would have been a lot better to watch too :D

Will this win move Nadal back to number one?

the yet to be completed fifth set of the isner-mahut match has already broken the longest match in history. i'm guessing that wimby organizers might consider implementing tie break even in the final set.

Consider: The longest previous set at Wimbledon lasted 46 games. Isner-Mahut didn't just shatter the record, they obliterated it.

Among the other remarkable statistics from the match:

— It's the longest match in tennis history: 10 hours. The previous record was 6 hours, 33 minutes.

— Longest set in tennis history: 118 games.

— Most games in tennis history: 163 (previous record was 112).

— The match is almost two hours longer than the longest Major League Baseball game in history (an 8:06 game between the White Sox and Brewers in 1984).

— Both players broke the ATP record for most aces in a match. Isner had 98, Mahut hit 95. The previous record was 78. Combined, the two had 193 aces, more than double the old record of 96.

— Mahut had just three break points during the entire match.

— The first four sets took 2 hours, 54 minutes. The fifth set is at 7 hours, 6 minutes and counting.

— Mahut won 448 points to Isner's 428. Isner had more winners: 333 to 318.

— The final set is longer than the previous longest match in tennis history. That was 6 hours, 33 minutes.

— Isner had four match points, one at 11-10, two others at 33-32 and another at 59-58. The first and last match points came nearly six hours apart.

— At 50-50, Mahut had two break points and Isner promptly served a 134 mph ace.

— With Mahut serving at 52-53, the pair exchanged a 16-shot rally which ended with a Mahut forehand winner. It was the longest rally of the match. On the next point, Mahut dove for a backhand at the baseline following another long rally.

— The players took their first bathroom break at 58-58. While walking in the tunnel, they exchanged pleasantries, the first time they had spoken all evening.

— Mahut only qualified for Wimbledon after winning a qualifying match in a 24-22 final set.

— The scoreboard stopped working at 47-47.

We'll never see the likes of this again.

The match is scheduled to be completed on Thursday afternoon. But Wimbledon organizers may want to keep a court open for Friday, just in case.
