Sharapova's looking good.. not a perfect game earlier but she never lost focus.. won the 1st set after being down 1-4 then took the 2nd set after saving 5 set points..she's got a great chance to finally win the French Open now that the top seeds are gone.. wag lang ma-jinx.. ;D

Unfortunately, there are still two former French Open champions playing, Kuznetsova and last year's champion Schiavone, though the two are in the same upper bracket of the draw. So she could be meeting either one of the two in the finals. For Sharapova to reach the final, she has to first beat dancing girl Petkovic and then meet the winner of the Li - Azarenka match. Not really a tall order knowing Sharapova's capabilities and fighting heart, but this is the French Open, and Sharapova's game is not really suited for clay!

But just the same, I'm rooting for her unless she meets Kuznetsova in the finals. :D
The French Open has never been this wide open since Henin first retired!

nadal beats murray in 3 sets.
federer beats djokovic in 4 sets.

nadal - federer finals!

nadal goes for his 6th french open crown to tie borg while federer goes for his 2nd french open crown. if federer beats nadal, he would only be the 2nd player to beat nadal in the french open, the 1st being soderling. but there is the added incentive of beating nadal in his own turf!

Fantastic tournament by Li Na, congrats to her.

China has its first grandslam winner!

She was in control of the match for most of the time except for a brief period in the second set where nerves got the better of her and she froze up allowing Schiavone to break back and get the lead. It's a good thing she settled down in the tie break!

Cant believe Rafa could still win the 1st set from 2-5 at set point.  Awesome 62 mins.

Now, Roger seems to be lost in the 2nd round with too many unforced errors.  Even his face looks totally dejected.    Mukhang hindi kami pupuyatin ni Roger - that after thinking just before supper that mukhang makakaisang set si Roger.   :(

Fantastic win by NADAL!  Tsuyoi!   Super clay court master!!!

Borg has finally been equalled at Roland Garros, and Rafa is still pretty young to break the record.

Problem ng ka-birthday kong si Federer, Nadal knows 1000% how to beat him methodically.   It seems the other top players have better chances of beating Nadal than the great Federer.

I thought Roger did pretty well in the first set by attacking the net as often as he could, on serve.  It was effective.  But then he reverted to his usual baseline game eventually, lost the sting on his 1st serves and he simply had tooooo much unforced error (but could be argued as pseudo-forced errors given the fact that Nadal's ball spins like hell).

On the other hand, Rafa is simply too superior on clay and despite his slow start in the tournament and injury here and there, he only had to see Federer on the other side of the net to elevate his game at Roland Garros beyond other's reach - and he also needed to change his foot plaster during the 1st set to start the meticulous destruction of Roger's fast start - hehe.

And if Nadal manages to stay healthy enough for the next 4 or 5 years, and given his impressive adaptation on faster surfaces, he may actually exceed the grand slam titles of Roger and be the greatest after all.

Federer can definitely beat Nadal even at Roland Garros. He has the game to do it. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the mentality to beat Nadal. Nadal has Federer psychologically beaten.

Yes, agree also. Fed showed that he can beat Rafa on clay, which he did in the first 7 games, and in the third set. Take the ball on the rise, take chances, rush the net, serve and volley, etc.

Then Fed falls back to his old habits, first allowing the ball to rise too high on his backhand, then after a while his forehand goes spraying balls too.

The tennis.com analysts said it simply: Nadal's topspin forehand to Federer's one-handed backhand is a battle that Federer cannot win. Therefore Roger has to change his game plan.
