Plus, is there any better backhand in tennis than Novak's? Not right now. Did any player in history have a better backhand? I'm still thinking.

I think Roger Federer still has the best backhand in tennis right now.

Roger Federer may still have the best backhand in tennis right now but some say that it was Justine Henin's backhand which was the best backhand ever regardless of gender.

They both use a single handed backhand,
madalang na ngayon ang gumagamit ng single hand,
most professional players nowadays use the double handed backhand...

Both of their swings are really beautiful and pretty powerful at that...

Agree on Henin's backhand.  Magnificent.  I have not seen one this well executed and controlled.  I feel she can whip a backhand and place the ball wherever she wants.

Federer's backhand? I think we can agree that it is the prettiest. Same with Justine's.

But as to "the best," tennis experts say Fed's backhand isn't even the best single-handed one, Youzhny and Gasquet have more effective and versatile one-handers.

But a one-handed backhand is no match for the modern two-hander.

I play with a single hand backhand too,...

Advantages of one-handed backhand:
1. It's easier to reach the balls, so it would take less time and effort.
2. It's very easy to get to the low balls, as you hit the ball when it's low.
3. You can control whether you want the ball to land exactly near the net or on the baseline (the distance of the ball).
4. You would have a better and easier slice, as you have taken on playing with one hand.
5. It's easier to do, as it goes with your hand.
6. Your opponent won't know where you are hitting the ball, as you always do the same motion.
7. It's more exciting :)

Disadvantages of one-handed backhand:
1. It's more difficult to control the direction of the ball (right or left).
2. It's difficult to do at the beginning, as it's either out of the court or ti doesn't get over the net, but once you've done it everything is under control.
3. It needs more power to do.

Advantages of two-handed backhand:
It gives more power and accuracy.

Disadvantages of two-handed backhand:
1. It's more difficult to reach the balls, especially the low ones, coz you have to go very down to get them.
2. Not a better slice, coz you won't be used to using one hand.

That's a nice list!

So it looks like the top 2-handers have done a good job of minimizing disadvantage no. 1 - you can see them really bending and almost kneeling. Some use a one-hander for a quick slice - Rafa does this. Then they reap the benefits of more power and more accuracy. Plus, a quicker reaction because it's more compact, with a shorter backswing.

I also play a single-hand backhand (very very badly hahaha) but more and more I see myself as a dinosaur.

US Open: Nadal dodges inspired Golubev to reach second round

http://www.gmanews.tv/story/230980/sports/us-open-nadal-dodges-inspired-golubev-to-reach-second-round

NEW YORK - Holder Rafa Nadal saved seven set points in the second set and battled back from two breaks down in the third to beat Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan 6-3 7-6 7-5 Tuesday in his opening match at the U.S. Open.

Nadal was far from his best but raised his game at critical points, reeling off the last five games in succession to subdue the surprising Golubev, who came to Flushing Meadows with a 6-24 record this year.

Golubev dictated points by moving inside the baseline to slash groundstrokes into both corners and make deft use of the drop shot against the French Open champion.

Ten times grand slam winner Nadal showed his championship class in roaring back from 2-5 down in the third set after winning the second-set tiebreak 7-1.

"I was a little bit lucky to win today in straight sets," Nadal said in an on court interview after the two hour, 49 minute match. "He was a very difficult player to play. He played very fast." — Reuters

Federer falls after going up two sets to none, and two match points on his serve on the fifth set. Djokovic is just having that kind of year.

Edit to add: I'm watching the 5th set now, and Djokovic is relentlessly attacking Federer's backhand, and winning. Indeed, today's semifinals showed again that, among the top 4 players' backhands, Roger's backhand is the weakest.

Wimbledon finalists grudge match coming up!

In my dreams, I first beat Federer, then in the very next match I beat Nadal, parang one "boss stage" after another in a video game. Impossible no?

Teka, nagawa na pala ni Djokovic!

malapit na semis ng Australian Open..

Nadal vs. Federer agad semis pa lang.. most likely Djokovic vs. Murray yung isa unless there's an upset..

sa women's side, Clijsters vs. Azarenka tapos Sharapova vs. Kvitova.. no Grand Slam again for Wozniacki..

I love how Kim Clijsters played yesterday,..
Power and precision, Wozniacki was outclassed...!

My money is on Kim again this year,...  ;)

Men's side, grabe ang hirap na inabot ni Nadal kay Berdych,
iba ang lakas ng bola ni Berdych kahapon, Nadal was having a hard time
returning, but when he took the ball on the rise, iba na naging usapan,
nawala sa rhythm ang palo ni Berdych, really an impressive win by Nadal...

But I still would like to see Federer win this one, he still has to prove na hindi pa sya matanda HAHAHA

Cheers,.!

This is going to be a noisy women's final.

Maria was lucky to get through though. She was trying her best to serve like I do. 10 double faults hehe.
