I just watched the highlights of the verdasco vs nadal match, and they were really amazing, looked like the finals already. All sorts of groundstroke topspin winners from both camps, really felt awe for both of them, they're good friends and teammates as well, they both deserved to win the match. Now its fedex vs vamos, cant wait to watch that match too!

at 4-4 on the 5th set, each had identical 190 points won.  that's how close it was.  but somehow, the better player usually gets the breaks towards the end.

Congratulations Rafa!!!

With the (terrible) way Federer served during the entire match, it's amazing how he managed to keep it close until the middle part of the 5th set.   To add to that, 18 or 19 break point chances yet converted only 4 or 5 I think?   I wanted to cry with Roger.

This is an awesome rivalry in any case.

Roger should hire Navratilova, McEnroe or Sampras as consultants to prepare for his future matches with Rafa.

It seems Roger lost his energy and focus during the last set.
Rafa is really difficult to beat. He is like a human wall.. lahat ng ibato sa kanya, bumabalik. ;D

Roger served worst during the 5th set.  I dont think half of his 1st serves went in.  Halos puro 2nd serve.  That's very frustrating at such juncture of a close championship match.

Yeah, Rafa is awesome.  And I like the "orderly" way he eats banana.   ;D

Okay din yung match, with a number of really good points. And at least ng 5 sets siya. But I found the Nadal Verdasco match much more exciting. Or perhaps I was just expecting it to be as good as their Wimbeldon finals.

So you'd rather not have it in HD Bro?   ;D

Yeah, when the match reached the 5th set, I felt hapi-hapi na yung game for all tennis lovers.  Sulit na yung 4 hours in front of the TV set.

Yeah, Verdasco nearly outmuscled Rafa at dawn on Saturday but I still think the baseline rallies and shot-making against Roger were more awe-inspiring.

Commentators call them unforced errors but if you're hitting a Rafa ball spinning like a hard drive in all directions, how can you not be forced to swing a little bit long or wide?    :)

I think some of the best highlights of the match were all those break points that Rafa saved, especially the 0-40 ones.  Roger could have finished him in 4 sets if not for those recoveries in the 3rd set.  I'm still a huge Roger fan but hats-off to Rafa's mental strength, determination and athletism (my wife thought he's kindy sissy on the bench though.   ;D).   Hope Rafa doesnt get badly injured with his very hard play style and sustains the rivalry with Roger for years.  Cant wait for their next clash.  Hopefully, Roger won't retire so soon like Borg did, and can extend Rafa to 5 sets on clay.

But Roger needs a coach.   Somebody, other than his fiance, should advise him not to fight Rafa from the baseline too much on most points - but I love watching them play that way.   :)

Well, now that you mentioned it, if I had to chose, I might get the semis match instead of the finals. :) But I don't often rewatch sporting events anyway so...

Agree. Nadal climbing out of 0-40 was tremendous. No.1 na talaga siya. And Federer, well...ever since Wimbledon, he does not have the aura of invincibility anymore. Di na takot mga kalaban niya sa kanya. He's still very good, but he had that extra going for him before.

Agree, too that hopefully we get at least 3 more years of Nadal/Federer in the finals.

The way the two of them played, it seems they are destined to face each other in the French, Wimby & US Opens.
They are both above their class. Hope they remain healthy for the year.

Seeing Roger in tears was a big surprise. He was really taken-in by his emotion.
He was the obvious favorite and the tears were more of frustration for having disappointed his supporters.
And as we fondly say... abangan ang susunod na kabanata!! ;D

Roger made another houdini-act by beating Haas while 2 sets behind. This shows he wants the title really bad.
While 23-seed Soderling, who beat Nadal earlier, made minced-meat of Davydenko in 3 sets.
I'd prefer to see Federer and Soderling in the finals. If in case Roger wins, then he can say to Rafa, "hey, i beat the guy who beat you!!".
Take that.;D ;D ;D

Will Roger finally get his first French Open title or will he be denied again?
He is not as dominant as before where he usually breeze thru opponents.
Lately, he had to go thru come-from-behind, five-setter games to reach the finals.
Competition is catching up on him and this may be his last chance at the title.
Arguably, Roger is the best tennis player ever. He has nothing to prove.
Except maybe redeem himself from this one.

what was roger thinking? he should have thanked soderling in his speech for defeating nadal but he didnt :D
that was one boring final, soderling wasnt playing in the same level he did in defeating the rest.

suck cause i always thought sampras' record was nearly untouchable then came federer, looks like he'll break sampra's 14 major wins this year.

But I'm happy for Roger winning the French finally - and the grandslam.

Happy to see that he has finally completed his grand slams,
but I am pretty sure at the back of his head he needs to prove to himself that he ain't over the hill yet...
and he definitely needs to find a solution to match the game of Nadal...

No doubt about it, he is an intelligent player, but let's face it, Nadal has his numbers...

i am pretty sure that he knows he ain't over the hill yet.
he knows how to beat nadal, and it was demonstrated by soderling. but knowing and doing are two different things. he needs to tweak his game a little bit and become more aggressive by attacking the net consistently. but herein lies his real problem. he needs to get himself fired up for every game. he must not be satisfied with his current game which would almost always beat anyone, anytime, anyplace except for the "freak of nature from madrid" who tracks down every ball specially at the baseline area. if federer can be aggressive from the first round to the finals of every tournament then nadal would be spending more time in his swimming pool drowning in his tears.

During the long rallys of the French Open Finals, I was seeing Soderling in Federer's shoes when playing against Rafa.

But Federer's serves looked a lot more potent than before.

I'm a huge Federer fan but I would hope for Rafa to get his own grandslam in the US Open.
