KD, last visit ko to Rene last week, meron tatlo dun for repair. I know who's ST that was na nasunog and power tranny but not member of PDVD. Sa wiredstate siya member.

actually, di ko alam. i just remember the last time one of my tubes got busted naka-triode mode ako.
medyo malakas din ang volume ko that time, drum tracks pa pinapatugtug ko.

Ewan ko ba. I did not use the amp for three months. May nagsasabi na delikado daw yung mga capacitor pag hindi na e-exercise. Siguro kaya bumigay yung isa. Pero sabi ni Rene bihira daw yung tulad ng nangyari sa akin. Three months are not supposed to be a long time.

I heard about that. Lima pa nga daw yon, sunud-sunod nasira. Pang-anim yung akin.

But mine is working fine this evening, man. Ang lambing talaga ng amp na to, lalo na pag LS 3/5A and kaparis.

Hindi naman, sir. Regular (pentode) mode. Pero hindi naka-standby mode. Baka yun ang problema. Nagalit nga si Rene. Aalisin na lang daw niya yung standby switch hindi ko naman daw ginagamit.

If the ST70 is UBR (Upgraded by Rivo), the old stereo/mono switch in front beside the input jacks has been disabled and converted into an operate/standby mode. When in standby there is no high voltage supplied to the power tubes. This kills the sound to the speakers and prolongs tube life.

Rene often puts the amp on standby when not playing music or when changing components in the audio chain. He suggests I use it more often in other instances, such as when I power off.

hmmm... i think the switch on mine is just disabled, tried switching it while playing and nothing happened

Which one Ice, the triode switch or the standby switch. Honestly, I cannot claim to hear much difference between pentode and triode mode on mine. Maybe its my ears...

the stereo/mono switch beside the rca jacks in front, so that means my amp doesn't have the standby function like KD has...

i just switched it to ultralinear, placed the cover on and let it rock

my only peeve is that you have to remove the screws when you put on and take off the tube cage, but like you - i guess i prefer it with the cage on

Hindi mo nga naman napupwesa yung tubes during turn-on.... Hhmmmm....

hirap sagutin ito ah....

I know it seems extravagantly redundant to have 2 tube amps (specially at my salary) but its very hard to pick one as a "winner" both have their own strengths and weaknesses, depending on the type of music you play

I was hoping to give a better answer than the stock:
300b - clarity, excellent mids & highs, tone
st-70 - punch, energy/vibe

but the truth is not far from the above... on the same set of speakers (Monitor Audio S1) you can really tell which is which when you play them, the fact that I'm not selling either (at the moment) is due to my immense enjoyment of both amps

ps - if you have a specific question, like how would Garbage's 'I think I'm Paranoid" sound like on either amp, then I can answer that
