"New Amsterdam" is a new Fox TV genre series created by Allan Loeb and Christian Taylor, executive produced by David Mason, Leslie Holleran, Steven Pearl and Lasse Hallström, who also directed the pilot.
Produced by Laha Films, Regency Television, Sarabande Productions and Scarlet Fire Productions, the series was greenlit and given a thirteen-episode order, May 11, 2007, scheduled to air in 2008.
The series will air on Canada's Global TV.
Premise follows 'John Amsterdam' (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a New York detective who is immortal. As a Dutch soldier in 1642, Amsterdam was killed by a sword when he saved the life of a Native American girl during a tribal massacre. As he lay dying, the girl weaved an ancient spell, conferring Amsterdam with immortality. Wandering for over 300 years he becomes an alcoholic in his search for one 'true love'.
