Guys.I have limited space in our room and naiinis na din ako sa wires.I have a 2.1 set-up, but I've read about soundbars. Is this better than a 2.1 set-up?And what brand/model would you suggest?

TIA

The Polk audio surroundbar 500CHT is very different from the surroundbar 6000:

-Surroundbar 5000 CHT - is a seven channel thin unpowered soundbar, you still need to hook up to a receiver. Also you need to attach a sub woofer.

- Surroundbar 6000 is an all in one system. The bar is power (it has a built in amplifier) also comes with a wireless sub woofer. The whole system is complete, you just need to hook it to a tv, media player, dvd or blu ray and your good to go.

The surroundbar 5000 CHT is perfect for even  living room or large room, it the best replacement to a 7.1 system. The surroundbar 6000 is good for a smaller living room or bedroom.

iniisip ko kung may difference ba sound output ng soundbars kung stereo or DD/DTS 5.1 ang iplay ko? since iisa lang ang optical in ng polk iniisip ko kasi na sa audio out na lang sya ng tv ko ikabit pero, correct me if i'm wrong, stereo lang ang output nun tv kahit pa 5.1 ang pinlay ko sa media player nito. kung mag matter kasi na surround audio ang iplay ko, magtanggal kabit pa ako ng optical cables between tv, ps3, and media player.

virtual surround lang naman sya diba? so dolby pro logic lang sya na stereo processed to surround?

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Also a newbie to the soundbar + subwoofer set up.  I'm interested in one since I've become averse to HT set-ups that take up a lot of space and are complex. I've listened to the demo of the Bose Cinemate and it was very impressive. But because it's Bose, the price is quite steep. Aside from the Bose and Polk soundbars, what are the other recommended/comparable soundbars available in local stores (pref. in Makati or Alabang)?

Harman Kardon SB16, JBL SB300, Yamaha ysp-2200, YSP-4100 or YHT-S400 so far these are the more common soundbars I have seen, aside from the ones you already mentioned.

Thanks for the leads, sir. Will check out the reviews. Would you know which AV stores (pref. in Makati or Alabang) demo/sell these?

Harman Kardon and JBL soundbars can be found in the "JBL store" in the fort and possible spectra in park square 1. They sell for around 20-30k. Yamaha's At "5th avenue" in park square 1. There sound bars a little pricier around 30k-80k but probably sound the best.
At 80k you can buy a full 5.1 set.

Anyone knows where zvox is available locally? So their ad is sound and vision and they have good reviews. Their systems start at $200.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Very nice looking sound bar but I wonder how it performs considering that the tubes are in the speakers, which will be prone to vibrations.
