IN WHAT’S an undoubted reaction to Blu-ray’s lead in the HD wars, Toshiba said today it is slashing prices on its players in the US market.

The recommended prices for its entry level HD-A3 has dropped to $150, the HD-A30 (1080p) to $200, and the HD-A35 to $300.

Justifying the price axing, Yoshi Uchiyama of Toshiba’s Digital AV group said that price is only one of the things early adopters consider.

But, he said: “It is a deal breaker for the mainstream consumer buyer.

kilan kaya ba baba ang price dito?

depends on how it will be boxed by the seller.  If it came in its original box, shipping cost will be 2k to 4k.  If they double box it, around 6-7k.   You can browse the johnny air cargo thread for details.  ;D ;D

Yup, you're correct there Sir mrk_cute, 110 volts sila, but if you have an AVR that has a 110 volt socket, then you don't have a problem!!! ;)

Just make sure you have a working 110-v socket sa AV regulator mo.. I learned my lesson just recently when the DVD changer I bought from Amazon conked out on me.  Buti na lang narefund na ng Amazon when I returned the item.  My suspicion was that the 110-v portion of my AVR was not working well.. Better cguro plug your 110-v gear to a dedicated AVR without any 220-240-v gear plugged in at the same time.. And check the 110-v socket if indeed it outputs 110 volts!!!

Toshiba to give up on HD DVD, end format war: NHK Link :(  Posted on 02/16/2008 @ 11:35 PM

NHK reports that Toshiba Corporation has decided to withdraw from next generation high-definition DVD production.

Toshiba has been struggling with its version of the next generation DVD format, as support for Blu-ray technology has spread among US retailers.

Toshiba has been in heated competition with other Japanese electronic giants such as Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi, which produce the high-definition DVD format, Blu-ray.

The Blu-ray format now makes up 90 percent of the Japanese high-definition DVD market after winning last year's price war for DVD recorders and players.

Toshiba faced even more difficulty when the major movie studio, Warner Brothers Entertainment, announced that it planned to use only the Blu-ray format for its movie software.

The company said it will continue to sell HD-DVD products for a while but will stop further development of HD DVD. Meanwhile, it said its DVD factories in Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan, would be closed.

Market observers said that Toshiba could suffer a loss of hundreds of millions of US dollars.

In the states lang. In our local stores even if it's available don't think it will go that low (even for a dead format) ;D
