Are there girls who want to sleep with Vhong Navarro just to get ahead in showbiz? Yes! But saying that statement is no excuse because it's EXTREMELY derogatory towards women. I don't know if Vhong is guilty of rape or not but defending him by saying "eh guwapo at charming naman siya" is very sexist.

It's also tantamount to victim blaming which unfortunately is STILL common place when it comes rape cases in the Philippines. If a girl gets drunk, flirty or wears a short skirt, she automatically gets at least part of the blame if not ALL the blame if she gets raped.

No is no. No woman "deserves" to get raped.

Yes agree 1000%. But the woman who does not want to be raped or much less be subjected into any kind of sexual attack from men who are looking for such an opportunity must tame themselves and not play around on those fields where such men lurks. The law penalizes the criminal and justice is claimed, but the ruined life is hard to recover. Deep inside the victim may just have to say, "i should not have been there...

Nobody would disagree to the statement that no woman "deserves" it.  But just to be clear, the statement "asking for it" is another story.  It's like walking the streets of Quiapo with all your cash in plain sight.

As jerix implies, women should still err on the side of caution.

As jerix implies, women should still err on the side of caution.

Then men should also be taught not to be rapists in the first place. This type of "victim blaming" especially when it comes to rape is a sickness. It is inexcusable. I don't care if the woman was drunk. I don't care if the woman has a "reputation". I don't care if the woman was wearing provocative clothes. I don't care if the woman was a prostitute even. Kapag ayaw niya ng sex at pinuwersa ng lalake, it is rape. And the woman should bear no responsbility whatsoever.

To even place even a little blame on the woman is also a grave insult to men. Ibig sabihin, lahat ng mga lalake ay pwede maging rapist at manyakis? It also makes women who were victims silent kasi ayaw nila mapahiya o pagbintangan na malandi sila.

This is the type of mentality that's prevalent in the more conservative Muslim countries. Kapag may na-rape na babae, they're actually more likely to punish the victim than the perpetrator.

Ahh so when Lolit said that, the victims were being blamed kasi gwapo/pogi daw si Vhong?

It's that type of "macho"/sexist mentality that leads to the type of "victim blaming" when it comes to rape.

"Eh guwapo at charming naman siya, eh" is not an adequate defense against rape. If you don't see how this is INSULTING to women, then you're part of the problem!

Okay. Think about it this way: If a beautiful woman gets raped, can the rapists defend themselves by saying, "Eh, ang ganda niya, eh! Kaya naman siya ni-rape. We couldn't resist!"? WILL YOU ACCEPT THAT AS A DEFENSE?

It's the same side of the coin.

Its insulting to women because the statement make women to be shallow.

I see it as insulting from the start, but for now, not sexist.

@Klaus, acknowledge your purist view.  If a prostitute says no because the client hasn't paid in cash yet, rape will be a tough sell in court.

I hope you don't tell your daughter (if you have one) that it's ok to wear clothing with the total surface area as a hankerchief, walk down a dark alley, and instruct her to simply say no if anyone sexually imposes himself on her.

If you want to prevent crime, eliminate the opportunity.

Maybe you consider me a bigot with my views, but as I said before, I will err on the side of caution.  I do not mean to start any flaming war.  I do respect your views, and this is just a slight difference in opinion.

Tama si sir ojofool, if Vhong committed rape, evidence says na hindi kay Deniece nor kay Roxanne.

I think it's far better to tell your son that it's not right to rape a girl, no matter what she may be wearing.

That slight difference in opinion is what is preventing more rape victims from coming forward because they don't need people like you judging them and not just the rapist. ("Bakit yan ang sinuot mo? Kasalanan mo yan! Ang landi mo kasi!").

I think everyone knows it's not right to rape someone unless you have a criminal mind. No parent would teach their kid that it's okay to rape somebody lalo na at malandi.

the world is getting to be a very complicated place ... one harmless comment giving your opinion and you'll be called sexist or racist ... pakiramdam ko even just saying the word black or white, or Christian or Muslim you need to be very careful as it will offend somebody ... i find it more offensive though about telling one of our members that he's part of the problem when he's just asking to clarify a statement

and i think that these are the same people who are pushing to have our rights curtailed in the CyberCrime law, cause they have the same mindset ... purist kuno ... just my opinion anyway

I don't give a crap about the Vhong Navarro story but since my parents like to watch Pinoy showbiz talk shows during Sunday afternoon, I heard a statement that really stuck to my craw. Lolit Solis has said that she doubts the rape charge against Vhong Navarro because Vhong Navarro "is a handsome and charming man" and that every woman would be irresistable to his charms.

No reaction from the media. Nada.

It's an extremely sexist comment unfortunately typical among Filipinos. The accused rapist being "guwapo" and "charming" should not be used as a defense. It's VERY insulting towards women.

It's even more insulting when used to describe Vhong dahil hindi sya guwapo.

I can live with that as long as people stop questioning the character of rape victims by the way they dress. Sila ang na-rape. Who cares how they were dressed or if they have a "flirty" reputation?

This is sadly a very common mentality (still) among Filipinos. If we stop this type of mentality more victims will come forward and more rapists will be thrown in jail.

at saka bading ka pati kya walang mag iinvite sayo sa condo!  ;D ;D ;D

lam mo bespren naguguluhan ako.....kse i find it unusual for a parent to tell his kid na it is a crime to rape somebody. di ba pwedeng yung pakikiapid lang eh masama na, bkt rape agad? ;D  ang rape parang pagbaril o pagsaksak din. it is an act. you prevent it by acting properly. eh kung subconsiously o consiously eh your inviting people na pagnasaan ka , eh kasalanan mo yon pag may nagyari sayong masama. eh ang alam ko ang pagkakaiba lang natin sa mga kapatid nating hayop(the lower form ;D) eh marunong tayong gumamit ng kwarto to do our act, hindi yung kung saan tayo abutin.  ;D ;D
