Oppo Goes Blu!
« on: Feb 21, 2008 at 11:32 PM »
For fans of Oppo's upscaling DVD players, they've now announced plans for their first BD player:

http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/20/oppo-next-to-create-a-new-blu-ray-player/

Knowing Oppo's pricing (as well as the great value you get from their players), expect the BD player to be less than US$300 ;D

Actually I have written Oppo inquiring any plans to manufacture Blue-ray Disc player. Here's my letter and their reply:

Sir/Madam:

Is there any plans for OPPO Digital, Inc. to manufacture Blu-ray Disc Player?

  Thanks & regards,

We have not yet aligned ourselves to the Blu-Ray high definition video format. The primary reason for this is that we feel that the current hardware solutions are not mature enough to be implemented and released by OPPO Digital. Our operational motto is to "make a mature product better". The Blu-Ray specifications are continually in flux, and we can't afford to create a solution which will become obsolete within a year.

We are vigorously investigating all current and future hardware solutions, however we do not know when we will commit to them.

Now that's what I call - a real "product development". Oppo certainly behaves more professionally than other Top brands.
