Brader Weng - bakit nga pala nasa corner yung Ultra .........mas maganda ba ang response nya sa room mo?

Brader Weng - bakit nga pala nasa corner yung Ultra .........mas maganda ba ang response nya sa room mo?

ewan ko ba, basta doon ko ipenwesto kaagad para may malaking space sa front at di makaharang sa harap ;D did not bother moving it to the center to check the response dahil sa sobrang bigat ng sub. i haven't bought a floor mat yet to put underneath the sub para madali lang itulak.

checked the room FR using SMS-1
1. malakas ang sub output (around 35-60 hz) sa front right (opposite side of the sub)
2. malakas din at the rear right corner (opposite diagonally of the sub)
3. almost flat response in the middle, above the coffee table
4. not so flat response at the sweet spot (middle of sofa)

my question now sa mga experts is saan dapat e pwesto ang sub basing on the above results?

^ not an expert insight sir weng but will share anyway.

my experience with placement is that when doing subwoofer too close to the corners, the sound gets to be boomy becasue of the corner loading. I have this feeling in me that the LFE gets muddy and in accurate. I have the best result when i placed my sub around 14 inches from the side wall and 14 inches form the backwall. the great gramma is what the name says, just really great at improving further the LFE.

Oo nga pala - why didnt you get a great gramma for your Ultra?

In my case, I had to put sliders under the great gramma to move it.

Baliktad yata ang ginawa mo. You should put the sub on the sweet spot (which means that you'll have to move your chair) and then umikot ka around the room, taking measurements with the SMS-1. Kung saan ang flattest measurement, yun ang ideal puwesto ng sub.

madali lang solusyon diyan.

naka-sideways yung ultra (para kita mo yung broad side nung gloss black) tapos dalawa sila para balanced look.

brader tirso and mac,

will think about the great gramma. sana ma audition ko muna before buying, bwahaha!!

di naman muffled ang sound sa ngayong. kaso pag nasa right front and rear ako nakatayo, boomy na ang bass.

ahh, yan pala is the correct way. sige i will try this one later pero may effect kaya ang sofa na ilagay muna temporarily sa other side of the room so i can place the sub in the sweet spot. or i need to move the sofa out of the room before checking the room's FR.

tried to tweak the single band para eq of the ultra, walang effect sa FR. hirap nga mag tame sa room FR using the 8 band para eq of the SMS-1 kaya di na ako nag expect to achieve a result using 1.

Suggest ko is iatras mo lang temporarily ang sofa and put your sub sa sweet spot. That's more practical and maybe more accurate kasi sa actual, nandun naman sa loob ang sofa.

automated din naman ang SMS-1 pero users will choose to manually tweak to get flatter response.

nako, presyo ng as-eq1 ay parang isang sub na rin.

i can push the sofa a bit to the back wall but the ultra will be around half the sweet spot and half the coffee table spot. i just hope that the flat FR is upfront, otherwise wala pa rin kwenta kasi no more space doon sa mga chairs. pwede rin sa sides ng sofa but the wiring will get messy.

Syempre magkakaroon ng compromise yan between acoustics and aesthetics. You'll just have to make the decision after doing the testing.

here's my room's frequency response using SMS-1. the sub is placed on the sweet spot/coffee table area.

1. mic at far front left

2. mic at front left

3. mic at front center

4. mic at front right

5. mic at far front right

6. mic at left middle of room

7. mic at middle center of room

8. mic at middle right

9. mic at rear left

10. mic at rear center

11. mic at rear right

the spot in the middle of the left and center speaker (#2) is the flattest. dito ko ba epwesto ang sub?

pardon the hi-tech mic stand ;D ;D

Ang galing ng ginawa mo. Yes, position #2 looks best.

Malaking tulong talaga SMS-1. The other way kasi to do that, without the SMS-1 is to crawl around the room and sense where the smoothest and deepest bass is. Mahirap yun.

thanks for the guidance sir mark. i will place the sub at position #2.

next is to tweak using the ultra built-in one-band para eq if it can tame the room FR.

maganda nga yung 2.  i think yung early sloping FR is caused by the height of the mic.  di bale, actual sub position is lower naman. (and listening position is higher, so magkaopposite talaga)

mike, the height of the SMS-1 mic tip is the same as the center speaker tweeter which is about the same ear level height at listening position.

new sub position. FR using the built-in single band para eq of the Ultra.

will further tweak the FR using the SMS-1's 8-band parametric equalizer. hope to achieve a ruler flat graph.

normally kasi, it is the subwoofer that is raised to listening position, tapos yung mic sa subwoofer level.
but that graph looks as good as it gets na without EQ.

but anyway, don't forget to update your SMS-1 (sa CDRking 100 php lang ata and USB to serial cable) it looks like it still has the roll off at the end which the new FW fixes.
