new sub position. FR using the built-in single band para eq of the Ultra.

That FR looks really flat to me. Using the SMS-1, you can probably achieve almost ruler flat. Swerte pa cuz it looks like the sub position is aesthetically ok.

Tama si Mike about sub position. It should theoretically have been raised to ear level while the mic was at sub level. However, try to raise the 150 pound gorilla Ultra and then patong mo sya sa sofa.  ;D ;D

Mukhang perfect naman ang results.  :)

if i knew it earlier na e position ang sub at ear level pinabuhat ko sana sa mga helper ko ;D, anyway pwede na siguro to, i still have the SMS-1 to tweak to achieve a flat FR. buy muna ako ng USB to Serial connector to upgrade the FW of the SMS-1.

swerte nga na sa front ang magandang response ng sub kasi yon lang ang place na pwede.

new sub position. FR using the built-in single band para eq of the Ultra.

will further tweak the FR using the SMS-1's 8-band parametric equalizer. hope to achieve a ruler flat graph.

ayaw ko na ng extra box sa front kaya i chose the ultra over the dual pb12. kung SUBstitute naman, parang bumababa ang performance ng ultra kasi akala ng iba na dual ultra ako tapos yon lang ang tunog.

after calibration with audyssey at new sub location, it's the first time i've encountered that the SW attenuation was set to +5.5 db. the Ultra gain was set at 9 o'clock and x-over was by-passed. most of the time the SW is always in the negative range. the previous calibration was at -6db where the sub was placed at the far left corner.

the sub performance is awesome but i'm not comfortable baka sobrang HOT na ang setting. i don't have an SPL meter to verify it. i'm thinking of re-running audyssey kaso tinamad na ako sa ngayon ;D

i could relate to this brader weng

if i may share, i did 4 runs of audyssey last night and in all tries, im getting a +db level for the subwoofer the highest at + 3db, while I know the range is OK from -3db to + 3db, im not comfortable with the +3db result as all of my calibrations in the past gave me  - db results. this is also the firts time I have gotten levels for the fronts and center ranging from -12db to - 10db, i dont know if sealing the rear ports of the RS6 has anything to do with it. getting a bit late already, i decided to give the result a try this morning instread, i was happy at how it turned out to be but just wouldnt feel comfy about the +3db sub level so i decided to lower it manually to 0db, on the other hand, i increased each speaker channel levels by 3 db, tried m and c and i was very happy with the result, sub gain is at 10 o'clock

now i have a better understanding of why the pb13 ultra is on top of the heap in the SVS line of subwoofers

that's reasonable if you get +3db at 10 o'clock sub gain while mine was +5.5db at 9 o'clock gain setting. in all my audyssey calibration experience, i only adjust the sub to +2 db hotter while keeping the speaker level as is. i may raise the speaker level this time at uniform step coz i noticed that the volume i'm playing is higher than what it used to be with the previous wharfedale speaker set. probably the reason is due to the lower sensitivity of the SVS speakers, but i could be wrong.

will there be any benefit in raising the speaker attenuation compared to just raising the master volume?

Di ba pinalitan mo rin ang LCR speakers mo? That could be a factor.

Another possibility is that the sub is no longer located at a corner so it has lost around 3 db. On the other hand, as we've noted, the FR is much flatter at its present location.

Maybe try to run Audyssey MultEQ again very carefully and if the results are still the same, don't worry about it. The Ultra is very powerful and you'd have to be listening at crazy levels in order to break it.

On the other hand, I'm wondering what kind of protection the SVS subs have against being overdriven. I'm not sure.

officially, the 12.4, 12.5 and 13ultra woofers are "bullet proof" in terms of protection.  that said, there's no sub out there that can't be overdriven.  the best protection for subwoofers is still the user.

all the ported subwoofers have subsonic filters for their protection with the plus and ultra subsonic filter in the hands of the user (so responsibility of matching the port plugs and appropriate subsonic filter are the user's responsibility)

note that it's very possible to toast the woofer if the wrong subsonic filter is used.

That's good to know. In that case, I don't think Weng should have any problem. As long as he doesn't go nuts and plays Flight of the Phoenix at reference level.  ;D ;D

yes, i replaced the LCR from SCS-01 to SCS-02. but not so sure if both series have different sensitivity.

the sub does not sound like it's going to get toasted. my concern is the sub may be way, way hotter than the rest of the speakers. tried FOTP and haunting a few times with the new settings but did not hear any distortion on the driver. but in effect my room is distorted, rattling ceiling and door ;D

Sir weng, re: rattling ceiling and door, malaking tulong yung great gramma. re: audyssey subwoofer setting, just try adjusting the gain knob an itsy bitsy lower and try audyssey again, malaking tulong sana kung may spl meter ka. When I was not using eq1, may gain knob was about a little pass 8 o'clock lang nag-reregister ako nang 0db sa onkyo 608. With the EQ1, almost the same position and nag-reregister and ultra nang 0.1 db, and sa SPL meter, below 75db sya pero ok lang daw yun sabi sa manual nang eq1 lower daw talaga pag spl meter ang gamit @ c-weight and slow setting nang meter.

I think this is pretty normal. The Ultra goes really deep so it will shake stuff that you didn't hear shaking before. The solution to that is to start looking for those individual rattling points and fix them one by one. It's not an easy nor a pleasant task.
