Initially try to look for a progressive scan TV in your home and connect via YUV,and your problem is solved, if not, follow th esimple steps:
1) Press progscan button wait for a few seconds it should come back.
2) If the picture becomes black and white and unruly, then the multi system format has been set, try to look for a PAL/NTSC button in your remote, and that should do the trick, the setting should be NTSC...now if you have a multisystem(Which is what TVs are mostly nowadays) TV, then just hook it & your problem's solved.
3) If everything else fail...hook via yellow RCA, this is now your basic analog connector, then go to setup function, look for TV system, then choose NTSC, then look for Porgscan function, then choose off or interlace, your problem should be solved by then.
Next time, try to give us the model # of your DVD player as well as the TV your player had been hooked up with, the above instructions are more or less universal for most DVD players, and Philips usually follows the general format, unlike Pioneer whihc have a different set of buttons to push.
Hope you can watch again after this.

Enjoy
