defective Yamaha RXV995
« on: Mar 28, 2008 at 06:56 PM »
mga brod and audio guru's,

need help yung old and reliable Yamaha RXV-995 has seized its operation. pag i-turn-on ko yung amp. namamatay siya instantly, may naririnig akong clipping near the power supply area. ano kaya ang naging cause nito. btw im not using any avr. need a suggestion. ibebenta ko nalang ba siya defective 995 or worth it pa ba ipagawa? not sure kung how much magagastos ko rito if iparepair. btw. its been a power horse of my 2nd HT system ever since. saka my wife and my newborn son is using it every day for 4 to 5 hours watching cartoons.

your suggestions and comments is highly appreciated

thanks

Please check your speaker wires, baka nagsho-short.  Ganyan kasi ang Yamaha, pag may shorted speaker wire namamatay agad, safety feature nya yun eh.

What did you do before your receiver behaved this way?  Often, it helps in the troubleshooting.

That clipping sound when powering the unit is the speaker relay switches engaging to off position because its protection circuit is detecting abnormal current surges due to a short, either on the speakers or the power transistors.  If as you said, there are no more speaker connections, your power transistors may have died and are in shorted condition.

remove its cover and visually inspect. it is possible a foreign conductive object got its way inside the receiver electronics.

If I were you, before sending to any repair, I will open the cover and try to, if possible, position it upside down, so what ever foreign body that dont need to be inside will auto fall off. Or try to blow the foreign object away if you see one.

If there's nothing, then the receiver is sensing a fault (short ckt)

mga brod. i did your advice and it seems insisting pa rin yung problem, yung nag cclip na naririnig ko is this one black tiny box near the power supply. parang 12VDC switch.

heres the culprit:

I tried cleaning it and putting it upside down pero ganun pa rin.

heres the overview innards of the amp. top view:

Bro,

Based on my expereinces on amps, due to old age, somteimes the relay switch is the culprit (madumi yung contact sa loob or defective na, Kasi imagine everytime nag popower on yung reciever mo nag wowork yung switch.... Worst case  may power transistor kang shorted or open. If I wer u ,try to bring it to a reputable repair shop ( service center) usually less 5k ang cost of repair niyan. or kung may kakilala kang magaling na backyard technician, pacheck mo muna yung  relay switch....

Good luck... :) :) :)

that "black thing" is the speaker delay relay, you probably have very high output offset voltage that it why that relay clicks then clicks off again.... to protect your speakers is the reason for its exixtance..

again have it repaired by a qualified repair/service shop or bring it to where you bought it, they should have after sales service...
That's OK, you can like or dislike anything you choose. That's the wonderful thing about the freedom

Hans baka napag-connect mo yung Jumper ng Main-In and Pre-out sa likod. Check mo usually horizontal yan baka naka vertical.

Kung ayaw pa din ibig sabihin mag DSP-A1 ka na  ;D

Hi,

Just want to share how  I fixed the same problem on my RX-V995.
1. Replace a leaking 5.5V .047F capacitor (resembles a watch battery)on the main processor board located around item 1 on the above picture. You can buy this capacitor at Deeco Raon.

2. on the board marked no.2 on the above pic, look for hairline cracks on the PCB solder points and re-solder as needed.

Hope this helps.

GOOD DAY,
thanks sir for your informative reply.
What problem was solved in replacing that leaking 5.5V .047F capacitor in item no.1? (memory settings)
What problem was solved in reflowing solder joints in item no. 2 PCB?(sudden shut-down)

thanks.
