Havent tried it yet but I think the program MKVMERGE has the option to split the MKV file into smaller fragments that can fit in single layer or dual layer recordable DVD.  But you still have to handle/burn the resulting split files as ordinary back-up data instead of "DVD" copy that is playable on a standalone DVD player.  You need another program to convert MKV to DVD.

Thanks Clondalkin, i tried mkvmerge, I split it in half, but the resulting files were bigger than dvd5 can contain. i tried using time which made the size smaller 2 4.2 gig and a 3rd thats all credits, the first and 3rd file i could play but the second one was unplayable. is there any way around this?

The fact that you can play the 1st and 3rd fragments suggests that you are doing the right thing, but something strange must have happened on the 2nd fragment.  Why dont your try again on maybe 3 equal splits or time period.  Did you use "segment linking" (I think it's not necessary but who knows)?  I'll give it a try tonight on one of my bigger files and play around with possible splitting options.

I notice that MKV files tend to be a little more sensitive than avi files even when it comes to simply file transferring.  Ang daling ma-corrupt.

Good luck!

Out of curiosity, I tried Gotsent, tsmuxer and mkv2vob. Gotsent has the least errors while tsmuxer was the fastest. Gotsent-converted videos played effortlessly on the ps3. What I am trying to find out now is how to play the split files one after the other continuously in the ps3 (using an external hdd) without the need to manually activate the next file. Paano kaya?

You can check out Videohelp.com and search for “Simple MKV to MP4 conversion guide” for step by step instructions for using Gotsent.  Although specific yun sa xbox, yun din ang steps for PS3. Just check the “mux to vob” and “split 4Gb” portions. Dapat FAT32 rin partition ng external HDD mo.

You can download AC3Filter so you can enable and adjust the DRC, voice, surround, etc. characteristics of your desired audio output.

Gotsent can only convert the first audio track. If it is not in English, download and run Mkvtoolnix, uncheck the non-english tracks, and remux the movie in mkv.

I still haven’t found out how to make the subtitles appear in the movie. Di pa rin lumalabas, but it’s not a big issue for me because I don’t generally use subtitles.

I am also trying to find out how to play the split files one after the other without manually activating the next file.
