My computer meets the system requirements all the way but it's too slow.

Is there a way to make it go faster by changing some settings?

How slow is slow? If your board/bios allows it, you can try overclocking, but there's always the risk of frying your processor.

Kindly specify the specs of your desktop.

What conversion software are you using? AGK/Agogo/Divx/Dr.Divx/Xvid tools

Video Cards specs also speeds up video rendering or conversion time.

Video conversion time are affected by a lot of factors.
For e.g.
AMD Vs. C2D
On board Video Vs. Video card
ATI Vs. NVIDIA (also the video card processors varies with each model)
Single task Vs Multitask
Startup settings

and lastly as what Firewired asked....How slow is slow

It will be quite impossible for us to give an appropriate answer to this question:

Since at the very least;
maybe only the startup settings need to be manipulated and your conversion time may go 5X faster.

What's the cheapest video card can you recommend for video encoding? I've been looking at the PCI-E vid cards like the Powercolor X1650 Pro 512MB/128bit and Inno3d 8500GT 512MB/128 bit. Please help. Thanks!

video encoding is cpu intensive process. you dont need a high end video card for this. sa experience ko between single core and dual core is mas mabilis mag encode sa dual core. single core set-up:amd opteron 2ghz with 1mb cache, 1gb DDR, geforce 7800gtx 256mb and SATA HDD. dual core set-up: intel core2duo 2ghz with 2mb cache, 1gb DDR2, ati x1300se, SATA HDD. sa dual core pc almost twice as fast ang video encoding.

so speed of encoding really depends on the CPU and type of RAM used.

my vote would be for the 8500gt. its newer than the x1650. i think the 8500gt already supports hdcp.

I encoded a VCD to Divx but there is an audio-video sync problem. I am only using a P4 1.6GHz/1 GB RAM to encode the video. Is the delay due to the speed of my computer or is it because of the program? BTW, I am using SUPER as my encoding software.

AutoGK is the best(but very slow takes 3-6 hours for single core processors)

or

convert directly via Divx converter.

It has nothing to do with your processor, only takes a lot of time with a 1.6 single core.
for e.g. at 0.75 speed, expect an hour long video to convert in 2-21/2 hours depending on the usage of your desktop,however, with P4 1.6, it's frustratingly impossible to multitask.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I am presently using AutoGK and will be awaiting the results. If this fails, I think I'd try the Winavi video converter as suggested by ivann.

I tried converting one movie using AutoGK and the results were ok. A little AV sync problem but bearable. I tried batch conversion and the succeeding converted movies had av sync problems way delayed than my previous conversions.

I also tried WinAVI video converter but at the start of the encoding, there is always a windows error problem that pops up. Any fix to this?

do try to download nga pala ang CCCP Codec Pack. install mo yun and then try mo uli ang winavi. are you converting it to dvd?

I'm trying to convert DVD to Divx. OK I will try to download the CCCP codec pack. I am also upgrading my desktop to these specs:

C2D Quad 2.4GHz
2 GB RAM
NVidia 9500GT

Hope I would be able to convert videos faster.

That's OK bro! I am also doing some experimenting on my own (it just really takes time and patience) and you're right www.videohelp.com comes in handy when the need arises.

Nerveblocker- He-He welcome to the Quad World....sa C2D 2.6, ang experience ko ay 30-45 minutes lang, kung XP ang OS, kung Vista...55 mins to an hour.
Enjoy....wala ka nang crash ngayon, at for simplicity sake.....Divx converter ka na lang...simple at mabilis....pero kung i-sha-share mo sa torrent sites...AutoGK pa rin, stick to 700mbs ka lang.

Bro just curious. Why are you compressing contents instead of upscaling?

With a new system as powerful as yours (excellent configuration BTW but I personally prefer the red side for graphics cards), I would be going "more hd from sd" than "less sd from sd".

You're right! I converted a 600MB Divx file to DVD in less than 10 minutes. Cool!

for convertXtoDVD get the 3.2 latest version, it's available on various torrent sites such as Pirate bay; Mininova; Isohunt etc... together with the keygen, takes 1-2 minutes with your 2mb ADSL connection.

Highly recommended.

Tips;
1) Burn with imageburn (get latest release, the one that's Vista compatible) rather than the convertXtoDVD burner (configure it)
2) Save your files, you'll never know, if you'll need to burn a new copy, delete only when definite.
3) Configure your Title page, the latest version now has the video title page,and has chapter selections.
4) The latest versions can handle OGM,MKV files, it's now a hassle free conversion, all subtitles can now be recognized.
5)Converting is now a breeze, goes up to 4X on my AMD processor,even with a Vista OS...much faster with Xp.
6) Lastly, enjoy your movies, it'll be crisp and almost all audio are now converted to DD 5.1.(unlike the older versions)

i remembered my 1st time using a quad core ..

simple video convertion
16minutes - e6600 stock settings (2x 2.4GHz)
10minutes - e6600 overclocked at 50% (2x 3.6GHz)
2minutes - q6600 stock settings (4x 2.4GHz)

Hi Alfie. What's the advantage of imageburn? My wife had converted and burned all episodes of 24 from Season 1 to 5 for his elder brother using ConvertXtoDVD and I think ni isa walang sablay (Season 6 ay puro high def na sila..

). I was pretty amazed by the quality of the transcode when I tried it myself on Carrier last month. I think one episode takes about 30-40 mins to transcode and burn, so I wish it could be faster (but same good quality).
