Not too far apart, but since you have a PV80 already. Why not give a FULL HD plasma a spin? Anyway, the only glaring advantage my S10 has over the C10 (lesser clone of the X10) is in the area of gaming and perhaps PC use since it's FULL HD. (Screen reflectivity is not an issue for me, so it's not a factor)

no plans of getting a new tv bro ;D
im just wondering if the price difference of 7k (between pv80 and x10) is worth it.  :)

The PV80 is still a very good performer, so an upgrade to a near similar T.V is not really called for. Off hand, a qualified "no" - it's not worth the difference! Unless of course money is not an issue or if it's going  be a first time plasma purchase.

Worth it bec of the size, not necessarily bec of the picture quality, which is in my honest opinion - Not miles apart.

i think its the size that will wow you as sir carlo pointed out. even from the same viewing distance, i doubt pq will improve, of course details might improve because of the larger screen size but not night and day difference. another thing that might give an improved picture, but does not have to do with bigger screen size is that the newer panels have theoretically better contrast ratio, so in effect better blacks too.

i think for you to get night and day difference in pq (as in details and resolution) is from your 42" pv8 or pv80, which is a 720p panel is to get a 50" full hd panel (instead of a 50c10 = 720p) and view it at same distance as you view it on your 42" now.

of course price will go up a notch.  :)

Only kung MALAPIT ka masyado.  Natural you'd see more of the "lines" ng bigger non-full HD panel if your viewing distance is close enough.

For example ne (this applies to full HD panels pero pareho rin ang basic idea).  For a 42V panel, you can watch as close as 1.6 meters at optimum IQ.  For a 50V panel, the minimum viewing distance for optimum IQ is 1.9 meters.  So kung dati ka nang umuupo at 1.6 meters then upgraded to 50V, meron degradation sa IQ.

Sa kabilang dako, you can sit as far as you want, farther than the minimum viewing distance and the IQ would remain the same.  Kase hindi na visible ang inherent imperfections ng non-full HD screen as you move away from it.  Of course, liliit nga lang ang screen as you sit farther.  So kung dati nang malayo ang upuan mo, upgrading from a 42V to a 50V non-full HD should NOT change the IQ.  Lalaki ang nakikita mong screen by about 1.45X.  Same IQ, bigger size - eh di mas maganda diba.

Based on reviews, my receiver can supposedly upscale even analog signals.  However, when I connect it, the PV80 only shows a 480p signal.  Was just wondering if anyone here has been able to use component cables to get a 720p signal on their PV80.

What's your receiver and its video output? There might be settings you need to change to tell the receiver the to output 720p (or higher) via its video output.

If not, the PV80 (or any plasma or LCD, if I'm not mistaken) converts the signal to its native resolution of 720p--in other words, upscales (or downscales, for 1080p sources) the signal already to 720p. It's just that its upscaling quality may not be as good as dedicated video processors or upscalers built into DVD/bluray players and receivers.

I'm using a Denon 1709 and an old Philips DVD player with only component out.  I'm thinking of just getting an NMT so I don't want to buy an upscaling DVD player in the meantime.  The 1709 doesn't convert analog to digital so the output of my receiver is also component and not HDMI.  The interface of the Denon is just so difficult to use.

User reviews are saying that it upconverts even analog signals.  I've already e-mailed Denon regardng this and am just waiting for the reply but am also just wondering that maybe the PV80 does not support 720/1080 if the input is only component and not HDMI.

Did you try switching the video convert setting ON and OFF on the Denon receiver?

Yup video converting is On for all inputs.  Anyway, am not really sure that it upscales so if the PV80 does accept HD material through component, I'll just have to wait for Denon to confirm whether it does have upscaling.

Ah ok, sayang.

Maybe they mistook video conversion (from composite to s video or component etc.) or conversion to progressive scan as upscaling....  :)

Maybe or maybe I misunderstood myself.  They were saying kasi upconversion.  Anyway, no biggie, not my consideration for buying it anyway.  Mura lang kasi.  Anyway, easy enough to just buy an upscaling DVD player naman if need be.
